Petrol, self propelling or push along?
2 stroke or 4 stroke?
Electric, cable or cordless?
Hover or wheeled?
Mulch, scatter or collect?

It’s a minefield!

If it's a minefield, you shouldn't be trying to mow it.

I am trying to buy one that mulches at the moment, no joy.
My garden is nearly half an acre so no good emptying a box every 5 minutes.
Apparently there is a big shortage due to Brexit, Covid etc.
And yes I know I should get a ride on but its the only exercise I get. Or venture into the garden for that matter.

I've got an electric, corded one that mulches, with a 100 ft. extension cord so I can reach the whole yard. Just gotta be mindful I don't run over the cord.

The mulch should act as a fertilizer and help your lawn I think about a quarter of the nutrients needed is provided by the grass you're cutting. I see people with bags on their lawnmowers and realize they don't know what they are doing. Not long into the summer you see their grass turn yellowish color while mine is still a nice green color. Ok a little something I learned from my Father. 😉 You also have to make sure your wheels aren't too low as you don't want the grass too short that will also burn it. I just use an ordinary gas and oil powered push lawnmower. I'll get the sit on when I can no longer walk well enough. We never know when that time will come.

We had one of those. Great for keeping the grass down but they eat everything else as well.

i had never heard of a hover mower until today
turns out they've been around for years
i found this

at the 40 second mark the machine catches on one side and tilts more than i would care to mess with
if this was on level ground, maybe
but this vid was shot on a hillside

very precarious

personally, i would recommend a battery powered mower with four wheels unless the plot of land you intend to maintain is overly large
even so, batteries can be charged and swapped more quickly than pouring petrol

Consider removing as much of your lawn as possible and replacing it with indigenous groundcover species/bark mulch/gravel/ponds. Lawns are ecologically barren, maintenance-intensive, and visually uninteresting.

Here are some very practical four wheelers.
