Oh yeah, I forgot to tell you guys that I saw the best concert in years on Saturday night. LCD Soundsystem and M.I.A. at the Opera House in Toronto. I didn't stop moving once.
M.I.A., a Londoner via Sri Lanka rhymestress, got the crowd revved up with songs from her way-too-hyped album "Arular". Her sultry dancing and unique vocal styles did not go unappreciated. The crowd was very much into her set and she responded by giving them what they wanted, even coming out for a rare opening set encore.
LCD SOundsystem? Holy crap. What can I say but freakin' WOW. I was originally skeptical about how James Murphy could translate his beat/bass-heavy sound to a live band situation but he did it flawlessly. Credit is due to his band who backed up a soused-up Murphy extremely well. The setlist included all the upbeat tracks off his debut plus all the great 12" singles he's been releasing over the past couple years including a cover of Siouxsie's "Slowdive" (!). But, obviously, "Yeah", the set closer, was the song that made us all cream our pants. A 10+ minute multi-instrument freakout that left the crowd out of breath and needing more!
Please don't miss 'em if they come to your town.

Did you check out that Wolf Eyes gig in Toronto this week?
Originally posted by MarcusrThe Wolf Eyes show was the next night but unfortunately I had some gay-ass birthday party to attend so I had to take the bullet on that one. Shame, really.

I'd have to say that seeing LCD at a festival probably won't be the same experience as seeing him in a club. It rarely is.
