Length of Vacation?

Length of Vacation?

A game I'm currently playing has made me wonder what the acceptable vacation length is. It is a seven-day TO, and my opponent has not moved since 26 June, but has his vacation icon on. As this is a very interesting game, and is still dead even, and because I respect this person and his vacation, I won't time him out. However, when does a vacation become ridiculously long (as a function of the TO setting, say)?

Well, if this is a first occurance, I would think much about it. But, if my opponent made a habit of it without saying something in advance, I would consider a timeout after three strikes. Fair enough I think.

Then again, I could be wrong...

I've said before that it might be a good idea if you could have a 'vacation message'. If you click on someones vacation icon, a page can be displayed where you could say how long your vacation is going to be etc.
Just an idea...
It could put a stop to everyone taking TO's and saying something along the lines of 'I didn't know how long m opponent would be gone and he didn't say anything...'

Not a bad idea...I'm just looking for some ethical formula (?) I guess.

There will be more than just a vacation message. Unfortunately, by the time I get it done, the holiday season will probably be over for most.

There will be details of flight numbers, hotel name, room number, itinery etc. Plus an area to upload your holiday snaps (one of which must be be of you holding a current newspaper to confirm the date) Also you will be given 3 'take back bad move' credits if you include a picture of yourself in a RHP T Shirt in an unusual location 😉 - sorry if I've let the cat out of the bag Russ...

Will that picture of Red Hot Ted wearing a RHP T-Shirt while being in an unusual position count or does it have to be an unusual location?
