As most of you probably have guessed, this thread is about the language spoken on Lesbos. Lesbian is based on chess notation, as I mentioned here: http://www.timeforchess.com/board/showthread.php?threadid=104157&page=2#post_1946683
I know very little of that language, so I thought maybe some Lesbians or other people who speak Lesbian could give us some more examples of this fine language. Here are a few phrases I know:

Lesbian: 1. 0-1
English translation: Where's the toilet?

L: 1.d4 f5
E: I am Dutch.

L: 1.Nh3?
E: Are you crazy?

L: 1.e4 e5 2.Nf3 Nc6 3.Nc3 Nf6 4.Nxe5?!
E: Trick or treat

L: #
E: It's over.

Now let's just hold on a minute here.

Yeah, yeah, yeah.

Funny concept. But the presentation sucks.

WTF does this have to do with Lesbians?

Is it just that using any other nationality or race would be deemed "racial" or "racist"? Or clearly not PC in some other fashion? What if instead of Lesbians, this said Chinese? Or Africans? Why not call this language "Algebraic", as spoken by people from the planet "Algebra" or something?

Please explain to me why lesbians are fair game for this.

Or is it suddenly "cool" to be homophobic and sexist?

I hope not. There's clearly too much hate for homosexuals in America right now. We don't need it here too. Yes, even if it is just seemingly "harmless fun". "Harmless fun" has a way of turning into "making fun of".

Sorry if you think I'm going overboard on this, but someone had to speak out.

I hadn't even considered it that way. No defence of course, but I was just trying (and failing) to be funny in relation to what a move, or sequence of moves, could say about someone.

Algebraic seems safer now you mention it. On reflection I haven't a clue how lesbians came into this either
😕

Edit - oh yeah - via the Island of Lesbos, so it isn't actually about sexuality in the literal sense, although we can hardly avoid the link.

Lesbos and Lesbians come into it via the thread I linked to. After writing my post there, it occurred to me that this language I had just made up could be a nice topic for a thread. Since the language was already mentioned as the language of Lesbos, it wouldn't have made sense to call it Algebraic or something else. I really can't see how making up a chess language that is called Lesbian could be insulting to homosexual women, though.

It wont be keeping me awake tonight, but I guess things can be misinterpreted, and as well as the meaning we give things we must be aware of the meaning as seen by others.

This is still a joke thread though and let us not make Everest out of a wormcast.

Sorry for any offence caused

I can't see why it should be deemed "racial" or "racist" if I had called it Sami, Chinese or whatever. However, apart from the fact that it was already established as Lesbian, a language that really exists wouldn't have worked very well.
