So I feel I pay far too much local tax. One of my favourite hobbies is moaning about my local council. So here goes:
I got a letter yesterday from my council saying I was illegally dumping rubbish and that I could face prosecution. Confused I phoned the council and they helpfully sent a big man down to me to lay down the law. It traspired my illegal dumping was because I had taken some cardboard to a council recycling depot, and because the cardboard came from my shop (for which I pay £8,000 local business rates a year) not my home, it was considered dumping as recycling is too expensive to be done for commercial tax payers.
I helpfully explained that, whilst recycling may be expensive, land fill costs the earth!
This attempt at humour did not go down well and he left slightly irate threatening me with court should I try to recycle my cardboard again.
We would be better to have Wombles running our councils.

I see this nothing short of ludicrous. It is these very people that should be encouraging efficiency in commerce. I would be tempted to write a letter to my MP if I was in your position. Until then, all you can do is carry on filling landfill sites. Unless of course you take your cardboard home first then take it to be recycled. They cannot track your cardboard's movements then.

These councils are ridiculous these days. Especially that new law on taking people's houses if they're empty for 6months. Terrible.

I notice you are awaitin the 13th of August. I take it you looking to the football season rather than the grouse shooting season which traditionally starts on the 12th of August.
Maybe I can pass the time, or maybe in this case just one day, by shooting a grouse or two...

Originally posted by expressiveoutburstIf someone is supposed to be living in a council house, and lives away from it for more than 6 months, then they obviously don't need it. Thereare more worthy uses don't you think?
