Greetings Peeps.
Sorry it has taken so long to get the ball rolling for this, i have recently moved and have suffered from a serious lack of internet!
For those of you who didn't hear about the first London Meet, you can check out the photo's here...

Ok, the last Meet up date was decided with a vote, but this time i'd like to avoid doing this. Why i hear you ask? Well, the vote delayed things considerably, as it ended up in a tie which mean't i had to contact everyone involved to get them to change their votes, etc, which was immensely time consumming. Also, i have another reason for removing the vote as we will be recieving some mystery guests from US of A. 😉
So, with this in mind, i propose that we should have the Meet up on the 29th of July.
Now, i am trying to organise something a bit special this time. Duaring the last Meet Up a number of us had great fun playing a chess variant called BugHouse. Well, i am currently in the process of contacting Guiness World of records to see if there is a World Record for the most amount of people involved in a game. If there is no current record, then i'd like to get someone down so that we can record one!! Now, this is obviously going to be tricky, as we will need a lot of boards and space, so it might not happen, but if we do pull it off, i recon we could get the site some free publisity into the bargain.
Venue: The last Meet up was held in the Wargrave Arms in Paddington. This turned out to be a good choice as they provided us with Sets and clocks for free (which really made the event hapen as not many people arrived with sets...). I am tempted to just organise the event there, but seeing as this meet will be taking place in July, i'd quite like to organise it in a Park. If only the London weather was predictable!! If anyone has any good idea's, let's hear them!
So, the ball is officially rolling. If you are available on he 29th of July and would like to attend, please send me a PM titled LONDON MEET so i can keep a list of people. As things get organised, i can then send out information to everyone, as and when it is required.
The last one was a blast, this one can only be better! Put it in your diaries now!
James 🙂

Originally posted by TommyCIf you could that would be great. I didn't realise there was a tournament scene for bughouse, perhaps there will already be a record after all. 🙁

Guinness Book of World Records sets at 326 simultaneous games played... by one little girl.
Didn't find anything about records for tournament games, so there might be a chance.
Originally posted by PeachyThat was a simultanious display, it was played to classical chess rules. Bughouse is a different game involving two teams. When a player takes a piece, they can pass that piece to a member of their team who can then use one of their moves to position the piece anywhere on the board. It is really good fun, as even a very strong player can lose to a weak player as they can aquire material all the way through the game. At one point, while we were playing last time, i had mate in three. My opponent was then given a Queen, which they promptly put on the board and threatened mate in two!! 🙄

Susan Polgar wasn't exactly a little girl when she played that simul...
... which is completely off-topic. But, btw, he also mentions this website http://www.chessworldrecord.co.uk/ which currently loads a blank screen for me, but maybe if it works in the future it will contain info on BugHouse records too. I also emailed my friend who is a BugHouse expert, I'll let you know what he says, if he knows anything or not.
Originally posted by PeakiteOh, sorry then for posting it. The letter didn't make clear what the website was about, unless I read it too quick.
It works for me, although as it's about a specific record attempt it probably isn't worth holding your breath for the bughouse records.
I emailed my bughouse friend about a possible world record, and he didn't know. He wrote:
"I have played in an 6 or 8 a side game- can't remember which. I used
this opportunity to mate my opponent with 6 Knights! Not sure any record exists though. "
As I'm not a BugHouse player on FICS (I only play 3+0 there) I personally won't contact anyone else there about possible record attempts. But it should be possible for someone to put in the conversational work if they really want to.
