I'm ashamed to say that the only thing that has really done anything to make me start changing my ways (slowly) is rising oil prices. I have decided to sell my favorite possession: my 1972 Chevrolet Blazer. The car I drive gets 52 mpg and if I tailgate close enough, will run off of the exhaust fumes from vehicles like my Blazer. I know that selling the Blazer to someone else just means that someone else will be polluting, but there's no way I will junk it.
So, people of RHP, what do you do?

The plan is to build a power plant somewhere within the artic circle so there is an electricity supply to plug the air-cons into, and then turn them all on and with any luck put an end to the melting of glaciers. All we need is for someone with enough money to build the power plant. Typically, we have had no reponse from the US, UK, Canadian and Australian Governments, nor those of the Scandinavian countries. Another project is to provide free air conditioners to the public and to people in developing countries.
Just for a moment I want you to think about how you affect the world around you, what you buy, what you drive and how much energy you use in your home.
What do you do to help the environment, do you use energy efficient light bulbs? Recycle?
Please think about it, just for a moment.
Please, just one moment.
I am genuinely frightened of what t ...[text shortened]... hina's industrial growth will exasperate the world's problem of CO2 emissions.
I AM SCARED.
It's nice to see someone else at this site cares about this important problem...

I'm at work now, but I know this morning I left all the lights and the air conditioner on.
On the way to work I had about 5 cigarettes, the butts are all currently lying by the side of the road somewhere.
I'm currently building a rocket full of carbon dioxide that I plan to release into the atmosphere to aid this so called "global warming." Who wants winter anyway?
When I was at the beach this summer the ocean was my trash can.....and my toilet.
When I went camping this summer, the fire was my trash can, it was cool seeing the boxes, and styrofoam and cans burn all those cool green gases into the air.
I just ate a McDonalds sausage, egg and cheese on a bagel for breakfast. I rolled up the wrapper and attempted about a 15 foot shoot to the trash can, just missed! I don't feel like picking it up.

Honestly, I feel sort of powerless over the whole thing.

It gives a good overview (if a little drastic) of the current problems facing the world over the next 50 years and sensible ways to 'do your bit' to help out.

Why do you use heating in your home? Why not just wear more clothes.
Do you really need a 4 bedroom house when there are only three people living there? Do you really need bedrooms at all, why not make your living room multi purpose. This would save energy as less space to heat.
Do you really need to flush the toilet every time you have a pee? Save water just flush when necessary.
Do you buy and read books, magazines, papers? Why not just read the online versions. Save paper, saves trees = better for environment.
Do you really need to travel several hundred or even thousand miles to go on holiday? Why not just stay at home? Think of the savings to the environment.
Why do you need light bulbs. When it gets dark then just go to sleep. Only stay awake during daylight hours.
Why do you not want the Chinese to experience industrial growth?
Do you really think that recycling a few cans, cardboard and paper is really going to make all that much difference.
I could go on and on but why bother.
The Earth is all fooked up already, just enjoy what is left while you can.
Eventually man will destroy himself and we will go the way of the dinosaurs.
