btw, what/who were you working for, if I might ask?

good luck my friend, Steely
I worked as a Quality Control Inspector (in Montréal) for a company called MAAX. Really nice products but they have major issues with quality ... It's too bad, because we finally started to see a decline in quality issues ... Oh well ... Off to bigger and better ...

Thanks a million (for the encouragement)

I'm feeling your pain. I was laid off (9 years ago) around this time of year and had 3 kids to feed on just my income. It is no fun, but you can get through it. Keep the faith and keep plugging away.

Thanks so much.

Really sorry to hear this. Although the timing stinks, it is probably better to know now rather than January when you might have the traditional post Christmas credit mountain to pay off. This is probably the only positive spin I can put on it, though.

The one thing I have learnt in my working life is that when things get tight in a big company, all that h ...[text shortened]... I will shut up now, as I don't know the facts, and I am probably not helping at all.

No Russ, you have hit the bulls-eye. Everything that you have said makes sense.
Thanks,

Anyway, gang. I saw the big boss this morning ... He is working on getting me a settlement package (so atleast I can buy a gift for my kids this Christmas). I just wanted to say a BIG THANKS to all for the words of support and encouragement. It feels great.

I will keep you all posted.

P.S. I started smoking again. :'(

Two thoughts:

First, dp I don't know what your training or experience is like, but in my field (pharmaceuticals) QA/QC people are always in strong demand because of strict government controls over the industry. As it happens, there are several large pharma companies who base their Canadian operations out of Montreal. Maybe it's a direction to consider.

Second, you know, we've got a HUGE group of people here with common interests but I rarely see people networking. Maybe there's an opportunity, not just to help dp, but to help each other with whatever our goals are, if there are enough people who are willing to participate.

Excellent idea. This is why I posted this thread. I knew that the group here at RHP are really great and supportive.

I have already rec'd some PM's which (I believe) will help me directly or indirectly to find another job.

Thanks for the suggestion. I will most definitely look in to it.

*thinking to myself "god, I love this site". As soon as I get a job I am definitely getting a subscription here.🙂

Hey everybody ... Guess what? I spoke to the "big boss". I was expecting a hefty pay out ... But that was not the case ... According to the law, he could not throw me out (which I had asked for instead of being "layed-off&quot😉 because in 3 or 4 months he would need me again ...

So, to make a long story short. He offered me a position/promotion (which I turned down 3 months ago) with a better salary & benefits. I have accepted it & am on my way to the mall to buy my daughter that computer that she has always wanted (for Christams)...

Finally, a happy ending ...

Thanks for the support guys it really helped.

Thank you RHP family for always being there.
I am so sorry danny. That really sucks.
This could be an old fashioned Christmas for you. You could all make homemade presents, and give heartfelt notes of love to each other. Food is also a great present.
Just know that you will get through this. Be happy that you are all together and be happy. It will be okay.
