After 6 years of devotion ... I have been layed off ... This really sucks, because Christmas is just around the corner, and you know what it's like when you've got kids ... I am not sure what I am going to tell them ...
I am so frustrated with the whole experience, because I was truly an asset to the company. I worked weekends (when needed), I stayed late & came in early. Honestly, you couldn't ask for a better employee. Oh well, that's life.
I guess what I am trying to say is : Give your kids (and wife or husband or boyfriend or girlfriend) a big hug, because your family is the only work that is worth it.
Thank you RHP family for always being there.

Sorry to hear about the bum lay-off...really. But you'll work it out in the end, you will!
btw, what/who were you working for, if I might ask?
good luck my friend, Steely

The one thing I have learnt in my working life is that when things get tight in a big company, all that hard work is easily forgotten as people try to save themselves.
Try to find new employment in a smaller company if possible, people who go the extra mile really make a difference then, and I am sure you will feel more appreciated.
I will shut up now, as I don't know the facts, and I am probably not helping at all.

you help us lost chess players - unable to easily find someone to lose or even draw a game of chess to - a lot more than you will ever know.

i did already know this, but you did put it in a new and enlightening way, and i will try t keep it just that little bit more real in future - thankyou for that suggestion.

Hello Danny,
Don't give up. I have been laid off twice (both times I felt I was a great asset to the company) and lost another job (due to no fault of my own, I might add).
Anyway, it is easy to get discouraged, but there are jobs out there. Just have to keep motivated each day in your search. I don't believe any company is really worth being loyal to, because at the end of the day, they are not loyal to you. You could hard for years and then most major companies (I would not say all!) would get rid of you without any second thought. I would also say that as companies get bigger, you feel more like a tiny cog in a big machine. Small companies are the ones to go for!! Ones where you can get to know everyone and have much more scope for progressing.
Good luck in your search and let us know how you get on!
Lau
Hi Danny,
I got laid off about two years ago now... it was pretty rough at the time - BUT - now, two years on my life is so much better!
It made me get off my arse & start my own company, which is something I should have done years ago... Now I see more of my kids than ever before, work less & all the money goes straight into my pocket instead of someone elses 😀
Just keep reminding yourself about whats really important in your life - you'll be fine.
