The LOTR strategy game is far simpler than warhammer, it's totally skirmish and the figures are more realistic, less fantasy.

The game itself isn't all that good. It's simplified to the extent that it is silly.
I think they were hoping to entice a whole new group of people into battle strategy gaming on the success of the films.
Of course it didn't work. Anybody who loves Tolkien and fantasy battle strategy games already plays Warhammer. And you are not going to trade in hundreds of euro's worth of figures (or start a second collection) just because PJ and Gamesworkshop think they can sell you something.

Go dwarves!
(or is it dwarfs? I never have been able to tell)

I totally agree with you mate ...

It's the same with the strategy card game - Magic the Gathering ...
Once that became famous, loads of other games suddenly appeared but none matched the original and who has the money to invest in another set of cards ...

Aren't you guys forgetting a completely better (and cheaper) tabletop game, like "Heroclix"?
www.wizkidsgames.com/mwdarkage
www.fastbreak.com.au (and follow links to "Heroclix" through "Collectables" on the side menu.)

These are superior games, and a hell of alot easier to learn.

Also, take a look at WarMachine. Looks good.
