I don't own a Mac and never have done but suddenly feel a need to defend them against ill-informed mis-information that seems to be emerging from somewhere.
The choice of CPU a system uses is a dumb reason to poke fun of it. Intel's i386 (generic term for the rubbish in most PC's) is not a particularly good CPU; it is just ubiquitous. Intel do make good CPU's but the i386 is not a prime example of one any more. Apple have never made their own CPU's, they always bought from WD, Motorola or IBM all of whom have made good CPU's.
I don't know what the rant about Apple and third party stuff is all about. Microsoft have often said the reason they are so unstable is because of third party drivers. Microsoft can't do anything about this because they don't own the hardware. Apple DO own the hardware and guess what!!! Is this a bad thing now?
The Apple OS is Unix, a well documented and open system with an external standards association. Windows is err.. a closed and proprietary OS with published interfaces and non-published interfaces that only Microsoft has control of. Which of these sounds the most open to you?
When you see the OS-X interface at work you have to wonder how that clunky old Windows interface became so popular.
EDIT: Damn funny link though!

I have a Nokia E65 which is the same but without the keyboard. Maybe you'll find it easier to get hold of one them. It is the only moby I've ever had that doesn't make me want to throw it down the toilet. VPN to the office,, MS Exchange synchro, useable web browser (even make chess moves on it), BBC teletext, pop3, voice over IP, Instant messaging AND best of all "spider pig" as a ring tone.

you really know very little about pc's, i take it you have never heard of driver signing from microsoft; microsoft have no control over who can produce a hardware product and driver code, however, they can authorise the hardware and driver which allows it to obtain digital signature for driving signing; the user can still install non digital coded drivers but at their risk, unlike apple drivers, it's nice to have the choice.
the fact apple own the hardware allows them to control the cost and supply of that hardware, allowing the user no other choice but to pay out and go to apple... and you consider this good!!!
i would go on, but i'm still laughing at the fact you think the apple os is open source, i think you've been spending too much time on linux

I haven't said OS-X is open source but, being a Unix, an open system, I take it you know the difference. However, as you bring up open source, much of the Apple OS is. The list is here http://www.apple.com/opensource/
Much of it, however, is cheating because once you've ported "gcc" (a "C" (amongst others) compiler ( "C" is a computer language ( computer languages are fun))) then you've pretty much got the whole GNU suit. Apple also took KHTML as their rendering engine (WebKit) for "Safari" (A web browser (useful for surfing the internet ( a bunch of computers that talk to each other)) from the KDE project and therefore also open source. By the way, I don't care if Apple is open source or not.
You said in your earlier post that Apple lock you in and yet extol the virtues of Microsoft's daft driver signing initiative which err.. locks you in to Microsoft approved hardware. Of course you CAN use unsigned drivers for now, which, of course, nearly everybody does.
I very much like your idea that now you have a choice between signed drivers an unsigned drivers whereas before you could only use anything you wanted to.
Again please read posts before responding. I said "i386" not "386". I also pointed out that this is the generic name for processors based on the 80386 architecture and instruction set. Apple probably moved to intel because of the cost but who knows. The idea that a computer is better because it has an Intel CPU in it is very funny to me.
Why is it that any post you see on the internet that looks like "could i speak to someone who actually knows something about computers" is invariably from someone who wishes they did.

final note: just for the record neither of us can comment of a processors interal make up; only a true assembly programmer could make such a judgement
