Gardaí believe a man who was killed at his home in Castleknock in the early
hours of this morning died in a dispute over a game of chess.
There was no sign of a break-in and detectives are working on the theory
that the man was attacked following a row over the movement of a piece of a chessboard.

None chess players will not believe how anything like this could happen but I've
see some serious violence in a pub game when en passant cropped up.
Nobody required a visit to the hospital but 4 people were barred from the pub.

Hi lolof
They reckon it's a human defensive mechanism to try and make light of any incident.
The whole tragic matter is open all kinds of comments and chess puns.
Am I in the wrong for posting it.
No. it is a fact , chess was mentioned. I've not made it up.

Originally posted by greenpawn34I believe it. At one time I played chess at a labor hall. Sometimes we had to stand and form a line in front of the table (where two or three games were in progress) if a fight broke out in the hall. There could be as many as 50 to 100 people in there, dock workers and every kind of laborer you can think of. And some of our group could get pretty rowdy too... but it doesn't matter where you play or who you're playing with, you can find sore losers anywhere you go.

Correspondence chess makes the game safer to play, and makes it possible for me to play anytime I feel like it, but sometimes I miss the over the board action.
En passant and the rules of castling were the usual points of contention, although there were a few people who couldn't believe they lost without someone "cheating". This was before chess engines could be the culprit, so "cheating" meant anything you did to cause them to lose... if you won a game against them, you cheated. π

The same source has narrowed down the rules of chess into 7 paragraphs.
The Rules of Chess
In chess, the king is the most important piece on the board.
Capturing the king, "checkmate", will end the game.
Players can move their other pieces in set moves across the board to trap the king, "check".
Both kings start on the back row of the board next to the queen and flanked by bishops.
The king can only move one square in any direction on the board.
A king cannot move onto a space where another piece is already.
The king can make a special move in conjunction with a Rook, called a
Castling, which allows it to move two squares and jump over another piece
on the board in special circumstances
