Well, I guess I like the idea. If someone really doesn't want to write a profile, they could just write a bunch of nonsense. But I think that many people, if forced to go through the trouble to write a profile would. I think the reason that we have so few profiles is that 1. Some people may not now how to write one 2. Some people may put it off, or consider it too much trouble.

Why on earth should someone feel obliged to write something about themselves on a chess site?
You could always PM them during a game and just ask what sort of person they are....
