On Sunday, August 29, the eve of the Republican convention, I will be joing at least 200,000 people marching for peace and justice in New York City starting at 12 noon. Anybody else from the site gonna be there? It be kinda fun to meet someone from the site there, maybe sneak a board along and have a quick game before or after the tear gas! Anybody with me?

I thought New York had banned the march because it would be bad for the grass in central park(or something along these lines).

They banned the rally in Central Park for the ridiculous reason you cited (far more than 200,000 people are in Central Park every day!) but the march is going down Seventh Avenue right past Madison Square Garden (the convention site). My 200,000 figure is on the low side; organizers expect a half-million or more.

I've been kicking around the idea of going, but there are other, conflicting, committments, so not sure.

I really WANT to go. I live in DC and the thought of trying to drive up there during the convention turns my stomach. I could take the train but with all the security it is likely to be just as big a nightmare as driving...oh bother. Where is the march starting? just in case I decide to walk, or something. 🙂

There is a charter bus going from DC; if you're interested contact Jim MacDonald at jsmacdonald@riseup.net or call (202) 669-5287. The march kicks off at Seventh Avenue and 14th Street at noon and it's a pretty long walk to the Garden so bring comfortable shoes! If anyone wants more information, you can go to one of my favorite websites: www.unitedforpeace.org.

If you're in or near Portland, Fearless, there's a bus going to the march: contact acadot@perkinsthompson.com for details if you're interested.

Thank goodness. My week is looking pretty tough already and I'm not looking forward to having protesters pee against the side of my building. The gay pride parade is plenty for me.
