You folks have got me addicted to poetry now. I hadn't tried my hand at it for years until that silly an perhaps unfortunate poem about Sir Francis Drake.
I've a much better subject for this next poem: my dear wife.
He who finds a wife finds what is good and receives favor from the LORD. Proverbs 18:22
My Wife
I am a sinner, foremost and first,
Yet my life is like my soul reversed.
My heart is evil and should be cursed;
My life with joy and blessing bursts!
Some times I cannot find one word
To tell of the grace and mercy I know.
Still, with words I'll attempt to show
This wretch knows blessings undeserved.
Not to exaggerate, but unreserved
About the truth, I must now confess
That so poor a husband how God could bless,
I know not, with a wife so truly served
By God with heart so strong and pure.
He made her good and sweet I'm sure,
for as these words attest, she cures
Much that was wrong when my days were
Not filled with what, as says God's Word,
Is good, and favor from the LORD.
