After a few years living in a country that is not my own, i have finaly been entrusted with the means to fly to my own country without having to hawk my granny.
But, now that i have got my Master card, and my PC, the small matter of "Internet security" is niggling at the back of my brain (or more to the point, it is screaming at the top of its voice "NOOOO"😉.

So what are the realities of giving your card details online, and what have been your own experiences? I have a current, regularly updated security system, and i do regular virus sweeps. Am i free to sit happily in my PC zone getting fat on pizza, paying my utilities bils, and ordering games & really cool T-shirts? Or, am i due to get a call from "Phil the supreme ruler of Heck's" cousin "Mr reality"?

p.s "Phil the supreme ruler of Heck" is a character in the "Dilbert" comics, but i dont take anything for granted anymore, so i thought i'd just mention it to make things go smoother.

As long as you don't use internet cafes to buy stuff, it's safe enough.

You should not be liable for any fraud on your credit card. unless you give out your PIN.

Correct.

Most credit cards have this guarantee.

I use my card to buy stuff all the time and have not had a bogus charge appear on my bill yet. One the other hand I don't tempt fate either, I use Spy Sweeper, Ad Aware, Spybot, Hijack this, CWS shredder as well as AV. Got burned by scumware so I make sure firewall is ok, I have cable modem so there is a built in firewall meaning you can kill the one in XP if you want, if indeed you use XP.
One thing that can lessen the danger of the internet, when you go online, do it with an account that is not an administrator account if you can possibly do that. Have an admin account in your user account list so you can fix stuff if you have to but being on the net with an admin account is asking for trouble. If some filthy McNasty bug gets into your system and you have only an ordinary account, said bug can't do near as much damage to your system as if you were online with an admin account. If you have an admin account online and a silent bug takes over, it has access to your entire system, all the hidden files, nothing would be safe from plundering by that bug. So be warned.
