He directed "The Deer Hunter", I saw this film zillion times in Belgrade cinemas and Cinematheque, and later in TV, the best edited scene of all times, that scene with billiard, before they took of for the war. Make feature film as documentary, and make documenatry as feature film, they say, and he did it exactly like that.

"Heaven's Gate" is considered as greatest flop, but it is magnificent film, the only epic film about American history which is fair to their gloomy origins."The Sicilian", "Tunderbol and Lightfoot", and before all "Year of the Dragon" underrated masterpiece for which each critic-motherfycker wrote only one thing "Rourke was too young for the part". Ha. Idiots.
