@shaptoni
Where are you finding those particular board sizes?
On my computer, when I go to board settings the only sizes I see are mini, small, standard, large and extra large. There is no micro or compact listed there as a board size choice.
If you do change the size setting, make sure to click the 'save preference' button.
@Kewpie saidI have cookies cleared on exiting my browser which means that each morning when I log in I have to reset to micro; if I were logging in and out many times a day it would be a pain.
In the new subhead line of My Games, right-hand icon offers a choice between Micro and Compact which changes the line spacing. Since my Compact maintains my choice across multiple devices I'm guessing it's a cookie setting. Do you have cookies disabled on your device?
The other alternative is not to delete cookies on exit but it is up to each individual.
Because cookies are deleted I have to resign into subscriptions for my newspapers - if you look at the help or technical forum I posted about cookies and Russ very kindly gave a solution.
Edit - it is in the technical forum under cookies.
@shaptoni saidIf I may suggest. Don't worry about board size on your computer. Use your PC, notebook, or tablet to display the current position in a game and do your analyzing on a physical chessboard with real pieces. Studies have suggested that our brains work better when looking at things in 3D (which more closely resembles our natural world) rather than the 2D images on computer screen. Yes - it takes some time to set up each position, but you don't have a lot of active games at this point, so I'm sure this wouldn't be a major issue for you. 🙂
Hi
I can only see how to search by author so sorry if this has been asked but I like a micro board but it keeps changing to compact. Anyone know how to stop this happening?
Thanks

@mchill saidI am on 3 different sites, it would take me the whole day and I still wouldn't be finished with my moves, were I to do it like that. I usually run around 100 games just on this site. Also note I have cut back. 🙂

Yes - I noticed that, but I was aiming these remarks at NI! not you. His 5-6 game load would easily accommodate this idea.

@mchill saidYes I know that. I was speaking for myself and others that carry many games. There is more than just myself it would not work for. I've tried it with only a few games when I first started playing on line and it is a pain in the butt setting up the board and moving in just a few games. Have you actually tried it yourself? It really isn't a lot of fun.

Yes, once past the opening (book) moves, I set up my board most of the time, using my notebook PC to display the current position. I also do this when working tactics exercises.
My work requires me to use a computer most of the time, so switching to a physical board is worth the extra few min. in order to get away from the screen. - -This is all a matter of personal preference I suppose but it worked well for players in the pre internet days, so I'm happy with it.
@mchill saidI am by no means a young man...LOL... I remember the old crank phone and party lines! I've been use to playing on the internet now since early 90's so I have become very accustomed to playing on the flat screen and haven't seen a chess board in many years now. I haven't even played in a Chess Tournament since the early 90's, still play with friends from back then but always on the internet. I probably would have a difficult time now on the Board to be quite honest. I'd have to practice looking at the pieces on the board for a number of games. My health isn't what it once was so a 3 day tournament would be probably too much for me at this point in my life, because of some Medical Issues, I don't think I'd have the mental or physical capacity to do it anymore.

@shaptoni saidThe 'save settings' button is usually found at the bottom of the page or window where you are making changes, and you often need to schroll down to see it. That's when using a laptop on the website. I have no experience with other devices and apps, so can't help there.
Thanks everyone for your replies, I am using the web version of dailychess.com on an iPad and I don’t see the option to save settings. Seems I will have to live with it for now
