At the risk of drawing MB out of his Catweasel hovel I’ll still post this question.
Why are some people still afraid of microwave ovens?
Many years ago a colleague at work refused to use the microwave in staff kitchen because her husband had told her not to. This was pre-internet times.
I found out this week that a member of my family won’t have a microwave oven in the house.
Am I missing some inherent danger with these machines?
@divegeester saidIt's not so much that I am afraid of microwave ovens; I am afraid of the people who will come after me if I talk in public about why I am afraid of microwave ovens.

When you eat the food cooked in them you die from radiation poisioning.
Also if they blow up its like an atomic bomb going orf.
@the-gravedigger saidI saw this once. Sister's kitchen. But I was in the lounge, so I was OK.

have you ever seen the youtube videos where a guy will cannibalize a microwave and make a welding unit?
there is a LOT of power tucked into a very small space
and i use mine at least a dozen times a day
i check for leaks about once a week with the tester i carry in my toolbox
there is always a small amount of leakage
is it safe?
am i hallucinating right now?
would you like to test yer microwave without purchasing a tester?
put a cell phone in the unit and close the door
use another cell phone to call the one in the unit
did the phone ring?
if so, yer microwave leaks
@the-gravedigger saidWhen I eat refried beans, I go orf too. You gonna hide in the den?

@rookie54 saidI heard you can test yer microwave oven by putting a wet poodle in and setting it on high for ten minutes. If the poodle comes out dry, it works fine. Should work for gerbils, too, but 5 minutes.

@moonbus saidWell before microwaves we had a budgie and one day I noted that it wasn’t in it’s cage. When I asked my mum where it was she gasped saying, “Oh my God”. Apparently my mum, an amateur veterinarian, had decided that it was in need of some whisky as it it appeared to have had a “cold”. When that didn’t seem to accomplish her goal of helping the bird she thought, maybe if I put it in the oven, on the lowest setting, for a wee bit. She had forgotten about it and well…FYI, there’s not much meat on a budgie.π²π True story. We didn’t eat it. Buried it, with full honours, in our back yard pet cemetery.

@divegeester saidThe CIA compelled all microwave oven manufacturers to incorporate a secret chip which records audio-visual 24/7 and relays it to Langley Virginia in real time. They also tap into cell phones and all the contacts in a cell phone and all social media chat rooms. The software is called Pegasus, just google that, if you doubt me.

Should you be concerned? Well now, that all depends on whose side you're on.
No.6: "Whose side are you on?!"
No.2: "That would be telling!"
@moonbus saidThey also monitor what goes into your microwave. If its deemed to be unhealthy you will be denied medical treatment.

@divegeester saidYou have ruined Christmas luncheon for 50% of GF readers. The poor benighted Swines will have no way of heating up their meal for 1 Christmas dinner.

I bury every dead bird I find in my garden or allotment. I line the grave with leaves and petals and say a few words.
