More Reasons to Visit Earth

(Dedicated to Raven69)

1. To laugh often and smile with friends and strangers. 2. To swim in the ocean at high tide. 3. To build high walled castles with seaweed

flags on a morning beach. 4. To enjoy relaxed conversation on any light topic or deep subject under the sun. 5. To breathe mountain air

along fern trails in autumn woods. 6. To contemplate tomorrow. 7. To hold an invisible cup of gratitude filled to the brim... Welcome back.

#8 To hear someone say, "I love you" for no reason at all excepting....that they really do.

#9. To see a grandson grow up straight and tall, and see a reflection of what your son might have been at that age had he lived.

#10. To slather a slice of homemade bread fresh from the oven with peanut butter and honey.

13. To realize how many men and women on the face of the earth worship their emotions (and whose god is their belly). 14. To drink wine.

Not at all. Every last one of us, as inhabitants of earth, emerges from the womb butt naked and ignorant. 'Visit Earth' recognizes our transient status.

15. To live each day eyes wide open... grasping the reality that half the population is below average and that we're all ignorant on different subjects.

Think you've taken liberty with the word "ignorant". Perhaps you meant "unaware". Ignorant has "ignore" as its root. Pretty hard to ignore something as a newborn. You may be unaware of things as a newborn but you are not ignorant of them.

You foolishly split hairs. An infant knows how to cry for nourishment and succor and out of pain. Period. It's brain is virgin, unprinted upon.

16. To be the recipient of unconditional love, undeserved generosity, no strings attached forgiveness and random acts of kindness.

I do not do it for my benefit. I do it to defend those who cannot defend themselves.

Sir, I disapprove your statement and I will defend to the death my right to say so.

"ARTIFICIAL BACON

Some of the smiles
I see seem like
artificial bacon.

It looks like bacon,
wrinkles like bacon,
fills the morning

kitchen like bacon,
even tastes like bacon.
There is really

no memorable difference
between manmade slabs
of laboratory bacon

and the real thing,
according to those
who say they know.

Maybe I am fault
for holding out
for the genuine article,

for acquiring a taste
for rashers of lean.
Maybe I find joy

in the idea of being
honest with the eggs.
Maybe I just appreciate

pink little pigs
putting something
of themselves into it,

pink little men and
lady pigs somewhere
giving their all."

If someone who is not from Earth would visit it, our xenofobia would go mad. Hence, our visitor couldn't laugh often and smile with friends and strangers 🙁

18. To melt and be like a running brook that sings its melody to the night.

To wake at dawn with a winged heart and give thanks for another day of loving;

To rest at the noon hour and meditate love's ecstasy;

To return home at eventide with gratitude;

And then to sleep with a prayer for the beloved in your heart and a song of praise upon your lips.

23. To penetrate well guarded nostrums and explode lowest common denominator myths, which may still hold ancient appeal; to see a thing

steady and to see it whole, without wincing or looking away while the bare bulb swings; to read between and beyond the lines like a child...

"NEVER IN THE EYE

Beauty was never in the eye
of the beholder,
much rather if anywhere
in the mind's eye of the beheld.

And a thing of beauty
was never a joy,
nor forever
but unappreciated and transient.

And the root of all evil
was never money
but the love of it,
Mammon, the servant and footman
of the unrequited.

Neither is hell denied
its fury, nor a woman
ignored or deceived
who prefers
not to be scorned.

And a female is not a woman,
nor a woman a lady
and young girls
rape their own futures
in the early sun.

And a boy is not a man
before his mother.
Furniture is seldom if ever
made in the woods.

And having a pleasant day
is less pleasant
than outright possession
of the unpleasant truth.

No, my kinsman,
the common wisdom is too common.
Though less fragile
it survives.

Neither is all well
that appears to end well,
if held together subjectively
and in place with pins.

And no crass Bohemian
spilling gypsy blood for the masses
was Christ, nor Caesar

a salad, Napoleon a pastry,
nor the Duchess of Marlborough
some new cigarette."
