I've been playing at RHP, off and on, since September of 2001. I notice that in the past few years I've become a stronger player, both in my correspondence and OTB play. Part of this is due to increased study on my part, but part of it is also due to the tough opponents I've found here at RHP.

I've noticed that many players here have also improved, in some cases both quite rapidly and quite substantially. I've opened this thread so that players may nominate those who, in their opinion, have improved most dramatically.

My nomination goes to Eyeqpc. As black, he took me to the wall in a Petrov, even though he played a line that traditionally favors White. In our current Scheveningen, it is too close to call. In the past 6 months he has made rapid and dramatic improvements, and has become, in my opinion, one of the better players here at RHP.

So, who are your nominees for the most improved player?

Skeeter kicked off well this year.

Thanks Bennett, that's good of you to say so. And its probably down to players like yourself, as I have bean studying heavily games played by several players on RHP like Breaca, Ironman, Livinglegend, Btutt and yourself. And also the fact that I don't take as many risks now as I normally do in OTB, it seems like I have been hovering around the 35-40 rank forever, I was there since having a rating of around 1840, now I am 1940 and still ranked the same, it just goes to show the level of improvemment by most on this site.
I can relate to you saying how your OTB game has improved due to RHP, as mine has dramatically also, I tend to play more cautiously OTB too.
Anyway I like to nominate as most improved player cbd, I have studied several early games played by him as a clan member of mine was playing him so I took a bit interest and although he played really well I felt his pawn structure and his midgame slightly let him down, these have improved at a great rate
I am playing him 4 times at the minute and I am finding it impossible to break his defense. His black game is phenomonal. His general game in all areas seems to have had slight improvement making him a much more accomplished player. I think more improvement on his white attacking play will ensure he will be a top 20 player on this site

So cbd gets my vote.

A young and promising player: Breaca I studied some of her games and she improved a lot. She sharpened her tactics!

I would like to second this. I still stand by my original vote but out of everyone on RHP I think I have studied Breaca's games more than anyone elses (still didn't help me in my games against her), and her improvement and general gameplay are superb.

breaca is an extremely creative player and boldly imaginative!
her games are well-worth looking at.
she is also one of the nicest people ever to exist - and i am not biased at all 😉

others i have noticed recently and appreciate for their ability and sportspersonship:
skipslot, brett, fernando and schindler, the former three have given me a most unceremoniously difficult time, but the latter is fortunately in my clan so that's a relief!

I'd like to nominate myself for least improved player. To think at one point I was in the top 40! 😳

Well it wasn't over night, it's taken me over 6 months and I've gone from playing 6 slow games once a week, as a non-member, to well over 100 concurrent games every day, it's taking up a hell of a lot of my time, I can tell you! 😞

Still, I enjoy it and I haven't played chess this intently since I was about 15. I think playing in tournaments and leading a clan has helped me keep focused and I have to say playing higher rated players certainly raises your game. 🙂

You'll face tough competition for that title, I suspect. I was very improved until I started losing again...

I would vote for fckallie I'm not sure if he's the most improved player but he is certainly on a rapid rise. He plays quick but despite his speed is very consistent. I have been drawn against him in many tournaments and clan games and have yet to take a game off him!

tejo

he has always been sufficiently better than me that i can't really pick the change in his play,
but he used to be rated just 100 points higher than me, at less than 1750, and seemed fairly comfortable there, then he has gone up and up and up and at number 6, rated 2123 he still seems to be going up and up and up

I agree, Tejo got substantially better extremely quickly. But look at Eyeqpc's history: Back in January he was having a hard time vs. players ranked in the 1300's, suffering losses to Rhymester, Gburl, and TheMaster37 among others. Then, in late January, he began a string of victories. His play has vastly improved in last 6 months, and I'd argue that his improvement is just flat out more impressive than Tejo's (who is also vastly improved and quite good, don't get me wrong...)
