Piggy-backing of the Darwin thread, who would you say are most
influential here at RHP? Obviously, none of us would be here without
Chris and Russ, but I would be curious who you see are the ones who
make the site what it is and by what criteria (ratings, MAP, ideas,
personality, etc.). Not necessarily a popularity contest, but just
contributing to the essence of the site. Kirk
There are, I'm glad to say, lots of contenders in my eyes... so instead
of a big list I'm just going to pick out a couple to get the ball rolling:
I'd like to nominate T1000 (Mark) for his many long and very well
thought out contributions to the forums...
and Vaknso (John) my arch rival in all things MAP who helps keep the
server from seizing up in this cold weather π
There are others of course but I'll let someone else take it from here...
Rhymester
I would definitely put you (Andrew) and John together and give you
points for that web-site rivalry. Mark (T1000) would make my list as
he always is positive and helpful in his outlook. For skill on the board
Gilbert, Dave (no you aren't forgotten), Paul and Fernando are in their
own league. And I think I would like to meet Bennett (BBarr) and
Julia (Lioness) for conversation. All seem like wonderful people. Kirkπ

good for conversation, Bennett and Julia but was not able to. Is this
because I am New or not a subscribed player? Do I have to play a
certain amount of games or reach a grade before I can play
established stars? Any help most welcome
Trefor, I can't speak for Bennett (bbar) but I think Julia has put a limit
on the number of games she is playing at the moment.
While not quite being on a par with those two in the conversational
stakes (nor playing wise come to think of it!) I do have the (albeit
lesser) advantage of not being at my game limit π

the midst of my first round games for the 'Long Haul' tourny. Things
have cooled down a bit, and I'd be happy to play a couple games with
you. Send them over at your convenience.

Rhymester Boring
later πππ
And it's a little harsh to call Rhymester boring n'est pas? He gets on
people's nerves a touch (a little ironic me writing that I know) but he's
ok really in a tolerable kind of sense. He's just a big teddy bear ππ
Seriously though, Andrew (Rhymester) and John (vaknso) are the two
most "influential", to my mind, by far. Influential and just all round
great. What with the MAP war, the websites, John now running the
Baker Invitational (with the help of that most excellent Belgian lady
who everyone seems to like for some reason; what *is* her name?
The pussycat? The hamster?? It escapes me ;o)), Andrew's sparkling
wit and humour in his posts, and so on, it's hard to look past them for
anyone who contributes anywhere near as much to the site as they do.
Mark
a bunch jump to mind for me. Dave first. His presence is felt even in
his absence. the MAP war duo, Kirksey, squirrel, that married couple
from Belgium, Flash, misslead, miss take, rein...basically all the
multiple-posters. Also almost forgot...maggoteer, Pawn King, Dr.
Brain, Tenerb8, Belgian Freak, mustangace. The more I list the more
I realize how many I'm leaving out.
I think it's the people who play the most and post the most that have
the most influence. And, unfortunately, it's the negative posters that
get the most attention.
...I've met and played a lot of good people over the year that I've
been here. I feel lucky to have found this site.

Schliemann was the most "influential". The forums seem almost languid without his presence as
MAP (most active poster). Except for his spats with other members, most of what he said was
interesting and insightful. Although I never played him, I understand that he usually was willing to
help the less gifted amongst us to improve our games. At one point I had begun to resent the role
of "elder statesman of RHP" that I perceived he had fashioned for himself, but now that he has
been toppled, I wish him a speedy and triumphant return.

capitalized properly. π
I've talked to and played a lot of people here that I admire quite a
bit, both as players and posters. As players... Dave, Bennett
, and Tim, for their insiteful criticism (since it is I
that make the mistakes!), patience, and willingness to ravage me.
Repeatedly. :'(
As far as posters... Mark, Andrew, John (who I
have not played yet. Laziness on my part), Jan, mmaggoteer
(can't remember your name right now. Is it Michael?), Lioness
(judging from the two we're playing, I'm sure I'll have some great
games with you)... and these are just the people I've played or talked
with recently.
If a site like this is built primarily on its membership, RHP has a firm
foundation indeed.
I think we're all overlooking Russ and Chris. No, that's not
exactly true. Our minds can't begin to encompass their influence on
this site, so we don't think to mention them. So, obviously, Russ and
Chris are the most influential. The rest are just people that post some
stuff and make some moves. πππ
Hey Franklin, how about a game or two?
