The stuff about mistakes / bad editing in the LOTR thread inpired this thread. Rant and rave about mistakes made in making the movie from a good book or just stupid scenes in movies etc etc.

This worst rendition ever from a pretty decent book must have been Hannibal.
The screenwirters probably leafed through the book on some warm afternoon in Hollywood and decided that they knew better than Thomas Harris. Characters were just left out or their personalities changed significantly (Hannibal Lecter cutting off his own hand - I mean come on!).

Give your thoughts!
Let Hollywood know that their days of screwing with good books are over 😛

Hey, Spider Man was a good movie and all... but part of the fun was Peter Parker being a science guy and making his special webs for different villians. In the movie he had spider glands...

WHY WHY WHY! Just dumb!

The worst movie from a good book was "The Keep"... Forget the auther.... but the movie stunk compared to the book!

How about films that improve on the book?

One for me is Fight Club.

Another funny(ish) mistake from the pretty horrible 'Wild Wild West':
At one stage 'ol Will Smith gets on a trolley thingey and tries to get underneath the baddie's train from his train.
Which is pretty funny because the trolley thingey runs on the train tracks...

Flight Club was pretty good, so I guess I won't ruin the story and read it!

The Miss's read "Angela's Ashes" and saw the movie... she doesn't like the way the movie doesn't show what a real "Useless Fek" the guy really is. In the book he was a flat out jerk, in the movie he was tolerable.

Last exit to Brooklyn & Bonfire of the Vanities. Both good books but cr@p films.

Dune was a pretty poor film translation. The book is probably my favourite of all time, but the film changed so much. People have been bitching about the LOTR films, but I think Peter Jackson did a bang up job on them, all the quibbles are mostly piffling generally unimortant differences. Dune, by contrast, was changed significantly for the worse. Don't even get me started

Lol.. i totally agree with you and i worked on it too! apparently they spent far too much money on the wardrobe and sets that they ran out of money.

Stephen King is my favorite author, most of the movies suck. The Green Mile, The Shining, and Stand By Me were good, those are the only ones I can think of that I enjoyed. I haven't seen Dreamcatcher yet though, has anybody seen and read it? What do you think?

NC🙂

That's not really any excuse. For the time it was made, it actually looks quite good. Much of the sets are like I imagined them. But....rain on Dune? Where did that come from?

Rain on Dune comes from the books (particulary God Empire Of Dune and Heretic/Children Of Dune). Dune was terrafromed after the Atreideis lost rule and it came under the Universal Code for planets or some crap...

Spiderman mistake - whne Peter Parker is climbing up walls, you can see his shirt hanging horizontally. That means you know that they shot the scene horizontally.😲

I knew that Dune was terraformed, but in the film, Paul just snaps his fingers or something and suddenly it's raining. And the Dune film was only based on the original book, not the sequels

I liked that movie🙂
if you look closely the wheels of the trolly thing extent to go on the inside of the rail (not on top of the rail) so that way it wouldent mess with the train on the top of the track.🙄
