G'morning all...
I've been producing all sorts of electronic music for years. I completely gave it up about 2 years ago, until recently. A friend of mine was in the same boat, so we teamed up and are working on an album. But rather than sit down playing riffs and deciding if it sounds good/bad, we've taken a different approach, a rather challenging one too. We're writing an album based on ideas/themes only.
For example we have one track done, the idea was to make a track with simple section of 5 bar piano looping over and over as if it were going along an industrial factory line and being processed/cleaned up on the way. There's all sorts of hums, whirs, clinks, clanks, steam which make up the rhythm but work on a different time signature to piano loop but it 'works', there's 'anvil' hits keeping the whole thing together, things slipping in and out etc, etc.
I have an idea for track 2... I came across this article on wiki about the "BLOOP"
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bloop
"The Bloop is the name given to an ultra-low frequency underwater sound detected by the U.S. National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration several times during the summer of 1997. The source of the sound remains unknown"
Nothing done yet. But I have the original sound recording, the plan here is a deep moody track, with an 'epic' movie score/monster theme. Using some sorts of sea sounds like bubbling water, sumbarine sonar blips etc. A bit sketchy at the moment tho...
Anyhow, we've hit a brick wall now, and would welcome any exciting ideas/themed tracks and what sort of sounds/music/samples/ideas you would employ? If anyone comes up with something cool we'll get cracking on it and i'll post a track link/progress here...
π
Cheers,

I've composed elektro for some time as well (but was rather bad at it, and I have no decent composing programme... had to use Fasttracker 2). If you need supply for samples, you can always rip some text lines from sf-movies, and give them lots of effects (echo and stuff like that). For the main melody I suggest modified key organ sounds.

Good luck!
edit: SCIENCE, you bl**dy lousy typist π
Oh and if you need inspiration for vague atrange elektro sounds, try to download some music by Haujobb, especially from the "ninetynine" album and "polarity" and "sollutions for a small planet". "freeze frame reality" is ok too. The new stuff is much more straightforward. What style did you guys make music in before? Anything I'm familiar with?

Originally posted by AstherealWe created a lot of stuff, it's soft/melodic along the same style of helios, mum, murcof, sigur ros, but has a harder edge to it too, sometimes pushing into the land of aphex twin/squarepusher. I'll check out Haujobb...
