Would be easier to slip her engagement ring off her while she's sleeping and play dumb when she notices...i could get a decent studio in the spare room 😉

Aye. There must be some third party software you can get for mixing MP3's and movie files somewhere on the internet. Maybe Major Geeks offer something.
you can do that with ulead. That's how i made the phlabibit video ages ago....just added the sound on.

You can unplug the two mics, and get 4 tracks down from seperate inputs, two mics and two instruments. There's also a whole whack of pedal effects thrown in there too....and a metronome haha.

I was thinking about recording video and then trying ot marry up the vid with the sound, or just adding the sound to some other video altogether....not sure yet.
The effects will be useless to you. In my opinion, the best thing about the Zoom package is that it can double as a USB interface and comes with a lite version of Cubase as well so you will be able to use your computer as a digital audio workstation.

I've used the Zoom before to record (loud) live gigs and it's a pretty decent machine.

Nice choice for starting out although you probably could have paid less if you bought it new on eBay or used on craigslist.

Nope, amazon was the best deal at the time.

Also, i was thinking about using the effects to lay down a lead track over my stuff....i'm a newbie to this, so i will get through a lot of tinker time before i can use it properly methinks.

Oh for sure. However, if you do want to learn how to record, mix, edit, etc and eventually do more with your talent, learn how to use the Cubase software that comes with it.

For starters, i just want to record the room, with the mics closer to my face for better vocal levels....then i can tinker and learn, and eventually i want to add my stuff to a drum beat. I might be mixing my wishes up with my ability though, so i'll be happy for a decent room record....while i've got you here. Suppose i wanted to steal a drum beat, and add my vocals and guitar...then send it on to someone else to add their own piece (over the interwebz)...what would the other person need to record over the top? could they just play it loud and play accoustically ?

For timing reasons, you'd want the drums first then record the other instruments over top of them. If that's not an option, the drummer will need to have a recording set-up of his/her own to record over top. That's not always simple when it comes to drums, especially acoustic drums. If that person has a V-kit, it will be much easier. Playing the guitar track loud on a stereo or something and then playing acoustically would be somewhat challenging and likely won't provide a decent recorded sound. The good thing about Cubase or any other DAW is that you could do it yourself and set up a midi track and "virtual" drums easy as effin' pie. You probably want to collaborate with a friend or something though, I'm guessing.

Yes. If i gave him a metromnome speed, and asked him ot play his part, i could just lay in on what i've already done, right?

Yep. Not every drummer likes to or can capably play to a click though. 🙂

Again, Cubase is the key. You can turn a mp3 (or whatever) of drums into a wave and import it as an audio track, then record your guitar over it. Simple.
