Why do we enjoy music more once we have heard it a few times?

That's actually a good question. I don't know how many times my first impression of a song left me not very impressed but after hearing a couple more times decided it was a hit on my own personal charts. Interesting. Makes me wonder if some music producers have the same reaction when they first hear a song. Should they actually listen to a demo a few times before making a final judgement? I don't know maybe others have an explanation. I don't know some songs you know right away if it's good or bad.

Allow me to expand:

* Some music we enjoy more ifwe have heard it some times.

Reasons: We have to learn the style, the composition, we like to have things repeated to us, we connect positive experience with that music.

* Some music is ahrdly bearable when heard more than a few times.

Reasons: It is boring, it is aggresive, we connect negative experience with that music...

Edit: Cahs beat me with some reasons 😉

I was mainly thinking of opera but I suppose the principal is the same for any type of music.

It doesn't work with opera at all. I can't even get through it the first time.

If you can't get through it the first time you may like it third time round?

No, for me I listen to a song and I like or or not. Maybe on a different day I'd like a song I didn't care for previously. Moods and music go hand in hand IMHO.

Greetings from afar, brush. Since joining RHP you've made only a handful of public forum posts. Hope there's many more.

Howdy, CP. At the GB Ranch our tastes are eclectic, except for Acid Rock and Rap. Gotta mosey along now.......

Thank you Grumpy Bobby, I get the feeling you are not grumpy at all. I will post something again when an interesting subject comes up.
