Originally posted by NordlysHi, nice photos on your site. I play guitar, banjo, autoharp, piano
My main instrument is the cello, but I also play the piano, and as a music therapist I use some other instruments (especially if a piano is not available) like recorder, accordeon or guitar, but I don't play those very well.
Hunt and peck method, Fiddle half assed, concertina, mountain
dulcimer. Play in a band called The Gladsmiths. Our tentative site,
full of spelling errors for now, www.thegladsmiths.com
Nordlys: Used to live in Alaska, saw some incredible northern lights
there. I thought it was difficult to photograph due to low contrast.
Better cameras now? maybe digital make it easier?
Also I went to your site and when I went to the guestbook, I got some
kind of spam, huge window covering up your guestbook, was unable
to sign it because of the spammer ad, couldn't X it out because the
X was off screen to the right and there was no way to move it around
to X it off. I suggest you get to the bottom of it if you want people
to visit your site. Unless you made some kind of third party deal to
allow this crapware attack, then you are hopeless.

I quite like Pete Seeger. Didn't he play banjo in some of his songs? Or was that ukilaly (or however you spell that attrocious word)?
these words written around the circle of the head:
"This machine surrounds hate and makes it surrender"
Unfortunately it got stolen by some pig-headed miscreant at a folk
festival.
I got a guitar lesson from Pete when I met him after a concert in
Lincoln, Nebraska (I was in the Air Force ATT)
We closed down a bar, stayed till about 3 AM, him showing me licks
like "Living in the Country", an incredible guitar tune he wrote years
before, was famous for that tune, it was used as the theme of a
bunch of folk shows in PBS. I found him to be extremely charismatic
and likeable. A few years later, I was his opening act at a festival
at Will Geer's spread near Hollywood, ca. He only played the banjo
and afterwards we all gathered round him shooting the itshay.
I said, "Man I really missed your 12 string" This time I got quite
a differant attitude, he threw me such darts of disgust and animosity
I never forgot that. I guess he figured, Here I am on a fundraiser
(it was a concert tribute to Woody Guthrie, Arlo was there) and
doing a freebie and you are bitching about me not bringing my
12 string, or thoughts to that effect.
Go figure.

missing a bit of intonation on a few notes but pretty good version.
Originally posted by sonhouseAn old manual SLR camera would do the job just fine and even has some advantages, especially in places like Alaska where it gets very cold (unlike here) and you can get problems with the batteries. I have a more modern SLR, but not digital. Until recently, digital aurora pictures didn't reach the same quality, but with the new digital SLR's, that has changed. But many aurora photographers still use analog photography.

Thanks for letting me know about your problems with the guestbook. I have a pop-up and ad blocker, so I have never seen something like that (I just checked and saw that they had an ad which didn't get blocked, though, but it was quite discreet, nothing like what you describe). I have my guestbook at onetwomax, and I have a free account, which means I get ads in my guestbook. But I didn't know they were so aggressive (they shouldn't be). Maybe I should look for an alternative or pay to get an ad-free guestbook.

Originally posted by Paul Diracwe dont record ourselves, we goto a sound recorder place and hire somone else to record us and mix us etc. they have so much equipment I dont even know the names of everything, I think on this last recording our sound guy switched everything to record on computers, instead of analog tape recorders.
How about a few details on your recording equipment? Microphones, mixers, tape recorders, MIDI, etc?
On our regular sound system we use Mackie 16 CH mixer, Shure 94 mics for instruments, and some $500 omni mic for the voices. (I forget what brand it is) then a couple EV 300 Watt speakers, Feedback destoyer, one 500 watt (I think) amp, equilzer, thats about it I think, I dont know much about sound equipment

I'd love to be able to play Piano or violin.
Playing violin is excellent for one's spirit and good therapy to boot!
