I have been wanting to subscribe to Redhotpawn ever since I found out about this website. I have argued with my parents about this issue, but they are totally against it. They tell me I spend too much time on the internet. Do you have any suggestions as to how I should try and convince my parents about letting me subscribe? What should I do? Please help.

If you are too young for a real job, why don't you see if there are extra chores you can do in exchange for a subscription. If this would be too burdensome, then spend less time playing video games, and perhaps your parents will come to see that playing online chess isn't so bad.

The one thing you shouldn't do is fish for handouts in the forums. We are not here to subsidize you.
Stephen,
Show your parents the site. Show them the threads(forums). I think they will find that most everyone here is friendly and outgoing. There is not the perversion you find in chat rooms, and there is no foul language allowed. There are clans specifically for under 18 year olds, and there are many teens and even younger who play here.
Ask your parents to allow you to play for, say, and hour a day. If they say you are playing to many video games as well, or just surfing the net too much, compromise and cut down on the other things so that you can be a member here.
Remind them that chess is good exercise for the mind. It develops your problem solving skills, and introduces you to people from all over the world. Allow them to look at your games and the messaging in your games, and they will find that rhp is a wonderful site for chess players of all ages.
Good Luck, Sarah (elvendreamgirl)

So far I think everything is covered... Less time goofing off on computer, get some chores done... and go to an all night rave if they won't help you out!
Good luck, guy!

They won't even let me hang out with some of my friends. That is why I lose a lot of them.

Originally posted by Stephen LiuMy parents are way stricter than that, I used to go to a really rough school where i was bullied and teased. Everyday i would wake up crying and shaking and often wet the bed. But they still made me leave the house at 8.15am without fail, and even walked me to the school gate to ensure i didn't bunk off. They did that for 18 months! Can you imagine how humiliated I felt?

if your supposed to be spending too much time on the internet, and aren't allowed out-what do they want you to do? 😕 also-in your profile you said that the teacher that takes your chess club showed you this site-well, say that he strongly reccommends getting a membership here as it will greatly increase both your chess-playing and mental abilities. and find yourself some random essay or paper to back yourself up on it...
