Hey Starmann, whats up with myspace.com not dealing with the
catagories correctly? I looked up bluegrass just for grins, not my
favorite form of music but just to see what was there, and lo and
behold, just like I found in the folk catagory, a bunch of hip hop and
rap, not even an attempt to catagorize. Why would those rappers and
hip hop artists WANT their stuff to be catalogged under folk or
bluegrass? Whats up with that anyway?

It's down to th user to choose which category they want to be in, I guess some people are just odd like that...

Maybe they just load up into every catagory, I seem to see a lot
of the same stuff on other pages. They must be hurting for
attention.
I put myself in the folk/blues catagory (in general, have not loaded
anything into myspace ATT) but I sure as hell wouldn't put my stuff
in say, electronica, unless I did flippin electronica for gods sake.

Was she at your birthday gathering? I remember catching a glimpse of a foafilf (that's 'milf' with 'mother' replaced by 'friend of a friend'😉.

Everyone, bask in the glory of Ant Hillary at www.myspace.com/d_in_t

A rec for anyone who can tell me what 'Ant Hillary' is a reference to before anyone else does.

Yes she was, I only have to glance to my right to take in her inordinate beauty, sigh...

Not that I care about the rec, but it's a Lewis Caroll reference, an analogy of ants forming a 'gestalt' consciousness.

It was a reference to Douglad Hofstadter talking about the same thing in 'Goedel, Escher, Bach', so you're close enough for the rec, given how Carrollian that book (which is arguably my favourite book) is.

I'm aware that this is a misuse of recs, since nobody really wants to read your post, even if you did use the word ''gestalt''.

I'll gestalt you in a minute, boyo. By the way, your sister was very nice, it was lovely to meet her. Did she get back to the US okay?

She enjoyed herself, as did I. We were rather amused by (eek, I've forgotten her name, she works for the British Lung Association and is hilarious).

My sister's in Spain now until July; I'm considering popping down sometime this spring.

Rachel. Yes she's quite the life of the party...

Where abouts? I love Spain, apart from Madrid.

Seville (the university of, specifically). She rents a room from an old woman who eats oranges and watches TV all day, and she sends me the odd email about the thriving marmelade industry.

Seville and in fact all of Andalucia is beautiful. You should go, but beware, tweed jackets are a no no, it's absolutley scorching there in the summer. Sleep during the afternoon or you will be a crisp.

That's good to hear; I might go in April for a weekend or something, leaving the RHP Meetup Jacket of Badassery safely behind, prepared to swagger about shirtless in the blistering Mediterranean sun and turn my transparent skin a fine shade of angry pink.

If you get a chance, make sure you visit both Cordoba and Granada, the first for the mosque and the history film you can view in the castle tower on the main bridge, the second for the Al Hambra. And go and see a late night flamenco tablau when in Cordoba, you'll need to vsist the venue during the day and books tickets. When I went with my ex, the owner came and invited us into his office and we got a free glass of sherry whilst booking the tickets. You'll also get free wine and nibbles at the show itself, which is at about 12:00 at night. They do everything post lights out cos it's too darn hot during the day. The mosque is truly a testament to the unbridled arrogance of the Catholic Church too...

I'm feeling incredibly depressed now. I've been pondering the mediocrity of our song writing for a while, I've always wanted to do stuff that's more intense, like the Kills for example, but I guess the musicians you get together define the music you make; a jazz drummer, a soul singer and a quiet, shy bassist don't make for in your face music. Sigh.... I ...[text shortened]... vain hope that I meet some more musicians soon that I can work with in another capacity 🙁
Liam, if you like to rock, I say rock. Find some guys who like to go nuts, even if they may not be the best technical musicians, and rehearse the hell out of them. You'll have a lean, mean rock machine in a few months guaranteed. Then you can decide which band will be your side project.
