Hi, in London so never see any stars, and only know them from the Southern Hem.

Tonight though I noticed an immensely bright star (11:30pm GMT) towards the South. Couldn't tell where it was in position to other stars as there are too many buildings around and no noticeable constalations visible. Didnt look like Mars or Venus, Certainly not Canopis either. Achernar ? Still seemed too bright for that. Anyone have any ideas, I couldn't find anything on the web.

cheers

There's a pretty good chance it was Sirius, which is the brightest star.

It was probably the new spacestation being as how it's the third brightest object in the sky after the Sun and the Moon. Have a look at the NASA website for more information on where & when you can see it. There's also a movie showing the inside of station.

Hi, thanks captain. Yeah had a look and apparently it can be seen in London for the next week or so. Pretty interesting, just wish I had my telescope!

For those in other cities..
