And will be amazing when they trade for Halladay when the jays ship him out this year
Why would they do that, he's signed through 2010, unless it's a salary dump.....but he plays for the Jays.....not the Pirates

This year and next are a loss anyway. I'm thinking they trade halliday for a great young guy and a pitcher. Then they package up overbay and rolen and get another young guy. They they ship off wells for a young guy too.

That's 3 great young guys and a pitcher. Add them to Snider, Rios, Lind, and Hill and you've got 7 good players.

By then, Marcum and mcGowan will be back so you'd have 3 pitchers. Then you just make a few free agent signings, and voila...instant competitive team!

2 years from today, the jays could be competitive again.

most of those "great young guys" will end up being busts -- with a small number becoming legitimate players and a very small number becoming stars

this is why the proven talent get such big contracts even when past their prime

teams with relatively low payrolls can be successful - but they need to have great scouts and a great farm system and a great GM who can repeatedly find gems among the scraps of the waiver wire and the later draft rounds
