I mean he is the 16th Benedict? How unoriginal.

He gets to pick his own name, go with something new!

Like Pope Rob 1.

Just a suggestion, Mouldy Crow, and then I will direct no further message to you:

perhaps learn to spell paedophilia, infallibility, and maybe the difference between its and it's before you allow yourself an opinion. 44, years old. Good Heavens! And you'll sit there and call the rest of the world ignorant. Sir, you are risible. Have some shame! Get yourself some evening classes, for the sake of Heaven! However, please do bear in mind your outstanding stupidity before you open your mouth to discuss a serious topic in future.

One should never bicker with a fool, so I won't even bother to begin to explain where the thoughts of the above cretin depart from the realms of logic.

As I have said before, and I will say it again, the idiotic and bigoted anti-Catholic sentiment which appears from certain quarters on this forum is caused by two major factors, often simultaneously:

1) lack of knowledge (or also general education, it would seem) which is the overriding cause of all forms of bigotry;

and

2) a massive inferiority complex (interestingly often justified by actually massive inferiority, demonstrated above by a grown, illiterate man, in this case);

What a world!

Personally , I liked the last pope . I grew very fond of him these last few weeks . I think they should dig him up and keep him . He'll do far less damage .[/b]
Well MC i'd say you have some serious ISSUES with religious faith [.period.]
I take you are agnostic and beleive in nothing except your own opion which you presume to believe is always right. You ask valid questions but could care less about the answers.

In short, you've got alot of pent up anger in there dude. Im glad this forum is here for you to vent otherwise you'd be a threat to society. That comment about the brownstar and teabags is hilarious... I would suggest you do stand up, but i think the crowd might turn on you.

What a world!
A few suggestions to you -

1 - When correcting my spelling , punctuation , etc , get it right yourself first : Moldy , with no "u" . Pedophilia , without the first "a" . And start a sentence with a cap letter ("perhaps ..." , and "lack of knowledge...."😉 . Also , "over-ride" in this context is hyphenated .

2 - If you don't like the forum thread or it's contents , feel free to move on to another or post your own . Generally it's not the way of the free world to try to stifle opinions you don't agree with . And generally it's the way of this site to toddle off to the debate forums if you want to argue .

3 - Before calling me ignorant , try some of those night classes you mentioned . Start with the spelling and grammar , move on to history while you're at it . You may be shocked to find that there are few institutions with as much blood on their hands as the RCC .

4 - Once again , kiss my ass .

I can only hope you are sincere about not pursuing further "dialog" with me .

sjeg,

So then am I to presume that if you take argument against a religion with a history of BIGOTRY, RACISM, IGNORANCE, VIOLENCE, MURDER, RAPE, PAEDOPHELIA and GENOCIDE, then you are an uneducated bigot with an inferiority complex? Good Heavens. Hail Mary. If you fail to understand the importance that the pope has on non-Catholics then you are a blind fool. Throughout history popes have generally held a major influence throughout the world.

I think that you fail to see the fear that is being expressed here, that there is a developing tendency towards IGNORANT, INSENSITIVE CONSERVATISM throughout the world, which will only mean that poorer countries will starve, the rich will continue to extort their power and pollute, destroy, and rape the planet until we're all extinct.

The argument isn't with your religion, it's with the ideology of the mind behind one of the most influential powers of the world.

Just to get back to orthographical points for one second, as enlightenment of the idiotic is not one of my preferred pastimes, however, I must point out that US dictionaries, for whatever reason, and a few have been suggested, tend to cut letters and even syllables from English words.

So to sum up, an quick ENGLISH lesson:

1) 'Paedophilia' DOES contain an 'A', as everyone seems to understand except the above imbecile

2) ...who is incapable of spelling his nick, as 'Mouldy' most certainly DOES contain a 'U'

3) 'Override' does not need to be hyphenated

4) 'Dialogue' certainly contains both a U and an E.

Allow me to tell inform the above mouldy paedophile that, whatever the usage in the colonial backwater from whence he crawled, that he is most certainly no authority on language. The very level of intellect displayed by our friend perhaps demonstrates that, Webster’s motivations aside, a large part of such omissions stem from the ignorance of the generally uninformed populace which (if I am kind) does not read at all, or (if I am more specific) would qualify for the most part as illiterate by anybody's standards.

The unfortunate creature above, I might very well deem ‘Exhibit A’.

Now,
Hopscotch, I’ll answer your post, as you seem a reasonable individual. Nobody argues for the Church as being without its own mistakes, sins, what have you. And my people have seen their own abominations from that side, and at one point in history, were very much betrayed by the Church.

But the real problems for the Church arose when it stepped from the spiritual into the realms of the temporal, in order to become a powerful European state. At that stage, it committed atrocities like any other power at the time, and served very much its own interests, in a rather Machiavellian manner. That is quite understandable. I do NOT believe that anyone should apologise for this, as has been the trend in recent years in international politics. But, the Church now has such a small territory, and, aside from the Swiss Guard, no forces, so I don’t really see it as threatening to invade anywhere anytime soon. For J.P.II was a spiritual leader- who did indeed try to influence politics, but politicians, and the temporal world as a whole, SHOULD look towards the spiritual realm for guidance. If you are interested in this idea, I might suggest ‘DE MONARCHIA’ as a very enlightening read, for the debate is far from new, as Dante will be the first to tell you.

To finish up, conservatism and liberal have NO RELEVANCE to the Church as an institution- these are political terms, and should be reserved for the temporal realm. Benedict XVI, I can assure you, is far from ignorant- I might even suggest that he is a touch smarter that the bed-wetting journalists he has been dealing with in the last couple of decades. He is a true scholar, and understands completely his role of upholding the Faith. So on these matters, once one is not a Catholic, I would think they might leave Catholics to their own teachings and religion. It is up to the Catholics to support and follow, or, if they disagree, to dissent, but then to leave the Church. If it is not for you, fine, get on with something else- anything else, but don’t whinge on about how you might like the Church to change- for at that point, it is nothing to do with you. That point is directed to the numerous ‘á la carte’ Catholics, as well as to those who never were part of the Church, but still wish to direct how it might be run as an institution.

I hope that clears up my point of view, Hopscotch. If you don’t agree with the Pope, so what- that’s up to you- you do not have to follow his teachings, or even listen to him. That is for the Faithful to do. So why not let them get on with it- subscribe to another religion, or to none- but bitching about the Pontiff from the sidelines is a drag. Freedom to practise one’s religion is paramount in Western democracy, as is the freedom to bow out. So let’s all just get on with whatever we have chosen, and have a beer (if that’s allowed by the religion we’ve chosen), and float around the sun for a while, relaxing…

There we go…
