Yeah, YOU. I am taking to you, you disgusting piece of infected flesh. The fact that you exist is why I do not believe in a benevolent god, you...
Just kidding 🙂.
Now then. I have a nasty plantar wart. Papilloma virus has declared War on me and entrenched itself in a little fort on the bottom of my heel. It must die. The wart, not my heel.
I've been doing some reading. Apparently Vitamin A makes the skin a more hostile environment to the wart. Dosage should be 300-500% of the United States RDA, but no more without consulting a doctor, because vitamin A can be toxic in extremely high dosages. It can be applied externally as well.
Garlic supposedly helps too, taken orally or externally.
Attacking it directly by pumicing off the top, dry layers and then applying over the counter salicylic acid (sp?) is a common way of attacking it. I have found that the liquid goop is more concentrated than the stickers and stays on much better, so I prefer it. However it tends to dry into a gummy mess in the bottle before I finish the bottle. Anyone know what solvent they use in that stuff so I can put more in when it dries out?
Freezing it off is another method. This is done with liquid nitrogen in the doctor's office, and can also be done with Compound W Freeze Off, an over the counter substance. Supposedly this makes a blister underneath and/or kills wart tissue directly. The directions say use it only once every two weeks and only up to four times total. Anyone know why? I actually used this stuff far more frequently and more often, and it kinda stopped working. I hope I didn't create permanently resistant virus or something.
Tagamet supposedly helps.
Doctors can supposedly burn it or cut it out. My doctor refused to do anything directly though because it was on a weight bearing surface.
There's supposedly some antivirals for genital and anal warts that seem to work as well, I hear.
I've tried a few methods, but not consistently over time. The damn thing is still there. I measured it a while ago - it was approximately 15x17 mm, and hasn't changed dramatically in size since then.
Now, I can do all these things more methodically over time, which will probably do the trick, but does anyone else have any suggestions or knowledge to impart? I know I probably know more about warts at this point than most or all of you, but if you have any ideas throw em out.
I'm also curious if anyone knows the life cycle of the virus. I studied it in my virology class but the info wasn't as detailed as I would have liked. How deep in the skin does the virus get out of one cell and infect the next?
Thanks!
