never been in prison i see.
it is known as pruno. you take fruit from the mess hall, put it in a sock, it rots, you add water and the stuff turns into alcohol in a jar you keep in the cell.
Provided you have enough sugar for the bacteria to eat and grow.
The rotting fruit provided the "kicker" and then you add a lot of sugar for it to eat and grow.
It's a great way to get botulism.
It's not as easy as people think.
I know how to make it 🤗
You have to vent the fumes or your bag will pop.
You have to warm it up twice a day.
Constantly add sugar.
Etc etc.

you can just take it from your cell mate if you are good at abusing people or you can use one of your own.
