According to esteemed general forum Doctors Smaug, Blackamp, Attacking The King, Crowley

and Huckleberry... a withered old 'coat upon a stick' should be able to help you immensely.

Good English is an irrelevant indulgence of the upper classes. Good spelling is fast disappearing with rise of urban-speak yooff colloquialisms and increasing dyslexic type disorders. Good communication is what really matters isn't it?

Then explain, please, why the oxide of "aluminium" is universally spelled "alumina" and not "aluminia".

Are you saying that the near-universal spelling of alumina lacking the i, trumps the fact that the near-universal spelling of aluminium includes an i?

I'm just saying that even those countries spelling it "aluminium", spell the oxide "alumina". Seems to me they are the ones facing a dichotomy.
