I have a netflix account and am considering getting a bluray player to allow me to stream 'watch instantly on tv' movies. However I do not have an HD type tv. Mine is just an older 'regular' tv with a fairly big standard screen. It isn't flat-screen or anything.
Is anyone else here using netflix to watch movies instantly over the internet on their regular tv?
As usual, I am on the trailing edge of new technology so was hoping to see if it's going to be worth it.
Originally posted by mwmillerThe selection is weak, and whether Bluray or 'regular,' the quality is indistinguishable: neither look any better than watching it on my kids' old VCR. When watching a Bluray DVD, there is a clear distinction between them and regular DVD's in terms of quality, and the difference between either format and Netflix (or Blockbuster, for that matter) is very noticeable.

EDIT: I said Bluray, but they don't offer that, only HD. Same fidderence.
I have watched netflix streaming movies on my laptop computer, and sometimes they play normally and other times they have numerous pauses and interruptions. I suspect this is caused by overall internet activity variations at different times of the day.
I was mainly wondering if the experience is better if you stream to your regular tv using one of the networking type dvd players or other devices that connect directly to the internet and your tv.
I'm not asking about the difference in quality between the bluray and regular dvd's. I'm sure the bluray would be better, but I'm just wondering about the quality of the movies when you watch them as they are streamed from the netflix movie server directly to your tv, when compared to the quality seem when streaming to your computer.
Thanks.
yer internet connection and speed are crucial...
and you need an adequate buffer to hold information not yet played to create the seamless experience...
you will also need to upgrade yer tv if you want to see any improvement in the quality of the content...
remember 1960???
a fuzzy black and white screen???
big ole dots dancing in circles???
yer present tv is vastly improved over that image, to get to the next level, hd and bluray, yer tv screen has to keep pace...
technology, for all itz wonders, is expensive...

The speed of receipt is the same for all three, with little to no delay detectable. The picture quality on the computer is the best, presumably because of the smaller screen/higher density--- despite the fact that the other two streaming devices are hooked up to the highest LCD/HD televisions possible from a year ago.
