I haven't checked this, but it might help you...

I was going to use Thunderbird to check my pop mail server at one point - I think I needed an extension, but when I downloaded the extension it attached itself to Firefox instead. I use Outlook 2003 instead now.

Any idea why this happened?

What is the best free browser?
I use IE, I think it's okay there are just one or two quibbles I have with it, like you can't right click in a picture and do "open in new window", and if you type a website address in wrong it brings up msn search which never finds anything and then you have to type the whole address out again.
I'm not worried about security because I've never had an issue with it.
Can I then remove IE, to free up HD space?
LOL!

Thanks - will check it out.

Edit.. I don't think it's going to work. Watch this space though.

For thunderbird, you have to enter the POP server as mail.hotmail.com I think, but it just returns an error message, the same as it does for OE.
I run 2 hotmail accounts - one old, one newer. It is the old on through OE. Are you saying if I configure Thunderbird to mail.hotmail.com then it should work for the older account? I'll try it.

Edit. It didn't work.

P.s. Bill G introduced the charge of £14.99 on newer hotmail accounts to stop people using them as spam sending vehicles. A tough call, but one that was probably for the best.

He said it wouldn't work. Also I'm sure Bill Gates hated introducing a charge for a service that many other places (gmail say) offer for free.

If we spent all our time believing what others say will and won't work, we'd still be huddled in caves fighting off bears and wolves.

Hmm, after a week of using Firefox I'm not sure it is any better.
There were little things that annoyed me about IE, there are little things that annoy me about FF.
Latest is that the drop down menus on ebay don't work in FF...

You could get this FF extension that lets you right click and choose to view the awkward sites [ebay] in IE.

Listen. Use FireFox. Microsoft's ActiveX component that is in IE will get you in trouble in the long run. Eventually, you'll have to install it, then you're screwed. Use FireFox for the best security. Then, download the "No Script" add-on for the tightest security. Here's the link for the add-on:

It took me a while to discover the qualities of Firefox (I switched from Opera, and have used IE earlier). I started to like it when I had installed two extensions - one which allows the use of mouse gestures, which I was used to from Opera, and one which makes URLs clickable, which works a bit differently in Opera, but you don't have to copy and paste there either. But what really converted me were ouroboros' user scripts, which add a lot of functionality to TFC, especially the forums. The only thing I still miss in Firefox is to be able to start from where I left in the last session.
