For starters, placing the pieces where you like adds a complete random factor to the game and introduces a lot of luck. Chess is one of the few games that almost completely elminates luck, which is one of the beauties of the game.
Also it seems convoluted. Another beauty of chess is in its simplicity.
Actually if people would begin to take up the game, they would invent strategies for piece placements (and counterstartegies). The whole thing would be that it would take probably a long time to establish sound rules for the opening, but maybe (just maybe) this game would have a solution, meaning an invincible strategy...
