the graphics are a bit sluggish on a 2.8ghz p4, 1024 ram, radeon X800, but make xp look like windows 95. I hear the release candidate for SP1 speeds things up, so help is on the way. it's not annoyingly sluggish, but enough to notice the difference.
everything else works slightly faster, especially dealing with huge directories.
installation was the easiest one ever. input the serial, click a couple of times, wait for about 40min and that's it. everything worked straight out of the box, which sure is the first time for me. it even downloaded fresh security updates before doing anything, which was nice.
all of the user interfaces have changed slightly, so it takes some time to figure out how things work. all possible security functions seem to be enabled as default (which is good), so the first thing is to get rid of the most annoying ones.
I hear fritz 9 might not work, so I haven't even tried installing it yet. however, here says it does work:

I guess I'll try installing it tonight...
babaschess, dasher and winboard work all fine, as does just about everything I've tried so far. nothing surprising.
as a whole, migrating to vista has been a surprisingly positive experience. everything seems to actually work. neither crashes nor freezes have happened yet.

I have an old computer and thought of getting vista on a new computer. Any thoughts? Is Vista good? Any chess games work on vista? Can I get my old programs to work on Vista?
Originally posted by wormwoodIt's much slower. I have problems with applications working properly (Photoshop in particular.) It froze up once and I had to have it repaired. I'm pretty decent with computers, but it was really messed up. The computer is only a year old. Also, some of my old programs, like DVD Shrink won't work with Vista. I was perfectly happy with XP. I guess I should have stuck with it. I have a laptop with factory installed Vista and it works just fine. CT Art isn't working though.
yeah, probably, computers often are like that...
what kind of problems did you get?

My Vista computer is a home build about a year ago and I have had no problems though I do not have a chess programme (English spelling) or Photoshop. We also have XP on three laptops (wife and daughters) and Linux on two other desktops (both home builds) with no problems so I suppose it depends on the equipment you have.
