i have been playing guitar for about 2 years now and am slowly getting "there". i started on the accoustic, and moved to electiric after about 6 months and returned said accoustic to my brother. now i have a dilemma. my amp fell to bits a few months back so i need another one. but i also want an accoustic guitar as this would be nice for playing at church etc with.
so, i have £90 and am leaving to go into town in about half an hour. should i get a decent amp (marshall 15 watt with built in effects) or a second-hand?...

15 watt amps are for girls.

edit: ps. When you're learning to play any instrument you are supposed to play it as loudly as possible. That's THE LAW.
Originally posted by hopscotchAgree, a 15 watt amp is no louder than an acoustic guitar and the addition of effects is just another of Marshall's slimey attempts to make you buy their amps rather than anyone else's. Save your cash and get a 100 watt amp.

If amp, at least 40 Watts and preferably one of these: http://www.samedaymusic.com/product--MSHDSL100
If acoustic, make it an electro-acoustic and prefeably something like this:

What I do rate is my Yamaha APX-3M which I actually bought in preference to a Takemine G-series at the guitar festical in Earl's Court. I got £120 off it and it is the most enjoyable acoustic I have ever had.

Rather get a decent Yamaha acoustic guitar. They're normally reasonably priced and you can bet your ass you'd get at least 5 years play from it. Seriously, save your cash until you can afford an amp of obscenely good quality. Then save your cash again and get an expensive acoustic, like an Ovation or something.

Unfortunately good equipment does not make good music so don’t worry about that until you’re really good like me.😉

Do your friends play with a drummer?
When they do a rare gig, they just mic the amps and use them for monitors.
But ya, I think what they like about the little amps is that they can get a "big" sound without rattling the dishes in the kitchen ...
