i was again challanged by a new player this morning: rate 1200, 0
games played. after checking i find out he challanged only players
above 1500, up to 1750...
this should not happen. why? well, i am not a rating addict, but such a
system is meant to serve a purpose: to allow people to play against
people with more or less equal strength and to support having good
games. of course one can play against anybody a friendly game,
especially if both parties know each other: this can then be a real
challange (rated) or just a friendly game (unrated). but starting at
1200 as a strong player against much higher ratings is not fair! if you
are that strong you will climb the ladder fast enough without having
too much impact on the others if you play within your actual rate range.
i was trapped a few times before. from now on i will refuse all such
challanges.

last remark: people should reconsider before taking multiple nicks.
this site is great, and with everything public, i believe that this is
against the spirit...

I agree with you. New players should not get a 1200 rating. I think
they should have to play at least 5 games before they get a rating so
then it will reflect there true ability. If newcomers get a rating you
never know if youre playing a grandmaster, a rookie, or a normal
player. This is just my opinion though

Talked to sintubin earlier..he feels the same way that I do. Some of
these people use programs. My losses have come to people as
such...a man who loses two pawns in the opening and then plays like
Fischer for the rest of the game??? Something is wrong.

I play fair and hard...my USCF rating means nothing here.

But suppose a new RHP player has a recognised national grade of
1600 or more. Should he feel obliged to grind away against much
weaker opponents? Of course some 1200 players may be as strong as
he is - but he's not to know that.

i understand the point. the problem is that someone would have the burden of drawing the lines when and when not to accept the
"recognized" status of a 'new' player claiming to be who he is. suppose Xenophobe or Rigamortus or .... (you name them) left this site
and came back later, who would determine where to put them?

if one is are really 1600+, it will take him a few weeks only. i really think the burden should be with the newcomer! as an example: i
started in december at 1200, played always in my range + or - 200 and made some stupid mistakes underway, and yet in less than 2
months i crosssed the 1600 line . what's the big issue?
