How about restricting the use of the forums to Non-Subscribers. The trouble with subs is they feel they've bought the right to spam. Personally, however, I don't mind them being allowed to play chess.

Hence someone has to a) make a stand against such nonsense and b) press the Alert Moderator button early and often so that a ban can be implemented as soon as possible.

Of course Stang is a sub. I don't really mind spamming, occasionally you get a good thread thats starts off as spam. This basically what the general forum is for as far as I'm concerned, as long at it's not offensive (friendly banter yes offensive no), pretty much anything goes. I'm all for keeping it out of the other forums though. I think the danger is if you ban or severely restrict non-sub's you'll lose a good source of input & energy into any discussion thread. Threads won't be as entertaining which will discourage people from posting, meaning that the forums will eventually become stale and dull. Maybe its just a case of a few more mods 🙂

You know, I participated in the forums at this site for about a year before I got a star. I've been an avid advocate of continuing to let non-subscribers post as there are many who contribute good things to the forums. I have to confess though, my position increasingly wavers as time progresses.
