I don't have a link to this one since its a tv show, but there is this scam tv night show I thought people should be made aware of, they have a couple of young goofy sales people touting the win of $100 or 2 or 3 US for solving a lame puzzle. The catch is the call costs 99 cents per minute. Think about that one for a second. You get say 10,000 callers calling in, every one answered and put on hold, say for 5 minutes(just a guess). So in that scenario they would be generating $50,000 US for 5 minutes, 10,000 bucks per minute or 600,000 bucks per hour. Nice, eh. I timed the winners, they averaged about 5 minutes between calls where these two goofballs were trying to claim nobody is smart enough to solve the puzzles. Here is one such puzzle:
F (Blank) (blank) T. The word was feet. Now think about how many combinations that makes, foot, feet, fart, fret, fort, etc. So they keep the public guessing and all those dopes are on hold feeding the program money by the bucketsful. Brilliant scam actually.

This has been going on in the UK for almost (over?) a year now. It is scandalous, and the people who call them should be shot for stupidity.

Edit: In the UK they put the one succesful caller on hold for a few seconds waiting to get through to the studio. If they get through they can have a guess, if not they are cutoff and another caller is connected. All other callers are given an answerphone saying "unlucky try again" and are cutoff and allowed to recall.

Edit 2: I have not called one of these, but have watched the show (quizcall) as it is compulsive viewing.

So you think I should hang up? I've been on hold for over an hour now.

Good deal. 🙂 I've been listening to yours a ton too. Excellent selections. I have a couple of questions about albums to pick up. I'll send you a PM.

A lot of modern day competitions are like that. Nice prize, $3 (text/call) per entry, easy question, lots of entrants, 1 winner.

I wouldn't call it a scam, as its a form of gambling, a pretty stupid one admittedly, but surely if they can get 10,000 mugs to call in, then fair play to them.
