Sure it's pointless, but it's about the only event in the year which everyone can share in or celebrate regardless of religion or creed, and all such events are 'manmade' anyway; Christmas is no less 'manmade'. Also I think people need 'new beginnings', I mean we wake up on 1st January the same twit that we fell asleep as, and the world hasn't got any better overnight, but the idea that it's a new year and we can try to do better this time has some value, I think.
To answer Suzianne's question, we'll be just the two of us, (myself and she who is most beloved) since a certain virus has prevented us from seeing anybody else. Still, it only takes two people to have a party....
