I remember when he was first arrested the Icelandic Chess Federation posted an online petition requesting Bush to pardon him; I believe I started a thread here and got some people to sign it. I wonder if the actions of the ICF had any influence over the Icelandic government's decision; be nice to think that there's a government somewhere that actually pays attention to what chessplayers think!

PS Nice story in that link about an Aussie surfer getting eaten by sharks, too.
