I don't play console games but my kids do. I have tons of ps2 games for them, so moving to ps3 is a logical step. The superior graphics and Blu-Ray will complement HDTV. Sadly, its only due for release here in March. Maybe most of the early gliches will be ironed out by then.

But I'm keen to get the Nintendo Wii for that interactive console, and I think the available games will appeal to my kids. Just hoping it gets here before Christmas.

As for the Xbox, I really don't see it offering anything that my PC doesn't provide already.

It's Madden, and objectively speaking it's probably the PS3 based on graphics alone - but I doubt you'll even be able to see the difference between that and the 360. Wii should have the worst graphics but the bonus of the wii-remote/nunchuk.

It'll probably come down to classic titles. PS has Final Fantasy, X-Box has Halo (first still seems to be the best, though) and Nintendo has Zelda. It'll come down to who likes what better. I don't like the 360 because you can play original X-Box games on them, which kinda makes it a pain to get all your old games again. The PS3 seems like the best overall system, but it's uber pricy. Wii has the new controler concept which will get all Nintendo fans out and maybe convert fans of other systems. Having Zelda and being more affordable is just a bonus.

I am getting an xbox 360, I ordered it off the internet just the other day.
The price was good too, £269.99; I get the Xbox 360 premium console and the Game 'Gears Of War'. Check www.play.com they have some very good prices.

Now the PS3 is too expensive for me, (£420 ?), so I can't afford that.
I don't find the controller that much good either.

The Nintendo Wii, the controller stinks of effort in my opinion, the games available don't really appeal to me either.

But I like the Xbox 360's controller because the triggers it has on it: I like racing and Shoot-Em-Up games like Halo and the 'Need for Speed' games, so these triggers really add to the whole experience in my opinion.

The games available seem to be good too; I am also anticipating Halo 3 with great expectations, and Grand Theft Auto IV when that comes too (note - this one will be simultaneous PS3 and Xbox 360 release this time 🙂 ).

Now your decision greatly depends on what games you will be getting for it, and the controller you prefer; online play you said was also important.
Also, make sure you search around on the internet for all the different package deals and prices you can get for your choice of console; it can save you a fair bit of money.

It is also worth noting that the PS3 can play high definition DVDs through the blu-ray format, and that it is perhaps the cheapest way to even get something to play blu-ray format DVDs; as it is something around £1000 (?) to get something solely commited to doing this.

You must remember that there is an ongoing format war between blu-ray and HD-DVD, and they are incompatible. So high definition DVDs will only play on one of these.
It is possible that blu-ray could lose this format war and the PS3's capability to do this could become obsolete.

I know about the format war, and so far the 360 titles appeal to me more - Gears of War is just so awesome looking. 🙂

There's one that I pretty much may base my decision around - and if anybody has the answer to it I'd be pleased.

Metal Gear Solid 4 - A Playstation series, that has spread to the other two consoles. MGS never disappoints, so if this is coming out on the 360 I'll probably get that.

FEAR, Gears of War, and Oblivion are the three titles on the 360 that really make me want it right now - I'm pretty sure PS3 has all of these though.

Wait:Not GOW, and FEAR doesn't come out until Feb.

Except on the PSP, where it really sucks.

Yeah, but not in it's original form. They turned it into an awful quasi-RPG with move cards and a terrain mapped out using squares etc. They sucked all of the 'espionage' fun out of it and it was a real lame duck - the 2nd hand shops over here were full of them after about a week of the release.

However, it "sold" so well that they made a sequel. Persumably, they don't take into account how many people brought back the game in disgust in their figures....

I hated MGS.

What kind of super-spy can't see more than 10 feet ahead?

I have an XBox 360.

How much is the online subscription?

Can you play online without a subscription (and obviously lose out on certain features) or is a subscription a necessity?
