listen you ill-educated fool ...
Yes, Metallica (and especially Lars Ullrich) have developed a stance towards p2p, merchandise etc. that many people might not agree with.

Anyone with remote understanding of music (and I exclude you here) will agree that Metallica is, beyond doubt, one of the greatest bands ever existed. They have ...[text shortened]... Boris

Oh and I have a life thank you. Trust me it is quite possible to do so without one whiff of metallica in the air.

You see something negative written about metal-licka and then you just rush headlong into longwinded, angry posts about how they rulez blah blah blah with references to the obscure songs with lyrics that make no sense, that will always be great!! LOL blah blah blah.
BTW, I wouldn't use album sales as a selling point either as Prince, Whitney Houston, Backstreet Boys, Britney Spears and Simon & Garfunkel have also sold as many...

As for Metallica, I avoided metal for years because i took them and their infantile lyrics to be representative of the genre (along with Iron Maiden and all those spandex/big hair bands that seemed to dominate in the 80s). Fortunately, some of it is way better...

Originally posted by geniusI agree with darvlay. Metallica USED to be good. Now they have noticed that they can trade on their past successes and publish, well, stuff that just isn't as good.
the best description of metallica is as follows,
"oh, how the mighty have fallen"...
Just to get Boris going again - Megadeth, Slayer and Sepultura were a far, far superior band in terms of the metal genre (their lyrics were a bit suspect, mind). If Metallica hadn't produced the Black album they would be relatively unheard of now. Even though the stuff they did before it was of a miles better calibre. The black album was commercial, and Mettalica knew exactly what they were doing when they created it. Being a metaller back then, I used to shy away from EVERYTHING commercial. So there you go...
I was heavily into metal (if you pardon the pun) until I realised that if music is going to be an important part of your life, then it is important to have a eclectic taste. I listen to anything from classical to doom metal now, and I enjoy music on it's individual merit - not on what category someone else has decided to place it...

I'm happy to hear your arguments - pro's and con's likewise -
I'm also happy for all other's to join in, but please spare me comparisons with Prince and Britney Spears (btw Metallica sold far more albums then both of these so called musicians - if in fact you can call that blond fake-boobed bimbo something like one)

Britney Spears' album: Baby one more time and Prince's album: Purple Rain have both outsold anything Metallica ever did.
And just so you know...so did the Back street Boys, Garth Brooks and the Bee Gees...
The top 10 best sold albums ever are:
1. The Eagles - Greatest hits (proof enough that quantity has nothing to do with quality).
2. Jackson - Thriller
3. Pink Floyd - The wall
4. Led Zeppelin Untitled (Part IV)
5. Billy Joel - Greatest hits
6. AC/DC Back in black
7. Shania Twain - Come on over
8. Fleetwood Mac - Rumours
9. The Beatles - The white album
10. The Bodyguard sound track
The best selling Metallica album is at position nr... 34. and even that suprises me.
I wouldn't even waste hard disc space downloading their crap.

Metallica - Black album - 22 million copies
Prince - Purple Rain - 20 million copies
Britney Spears - Ooops I did it again - 19 million copies
And these stats are

Below you will find the first (tentatively) official ALL TIME BEST SELLING ALBUM WORLDWIDE CHART, who collect all the albums who have climbed the 15 millions copies sold level. This chart is NOT DEFINITIVE (obviously future album will come in, but even past albums have to be added or corrected yet). Now i want to extend this chart to the albums who reached at least the 10 millions copies sold level and YOU could help me fill the holes with suggestions, additions and corrections. All you have to do is follow TWO simple rules
1) Any addition or correction must come DIRECTLY from official site of an ARTIST, a LABEL or an ORGANIZATION (like RIAA or IFPI associates) IN THIS ORDER. In case of challenging figures, in fact, i will first consider ARTIST FIGURES (that i have to recognize as the most reliable figures), then LABEL and at last ORGANIZATIONS.
P.s. If you wants to know WHY i've made this choice read this topic made by EDU.
2)Post a reply to this post with your addition/correction ALONGSIDE a linkable URL of the site with the official infos, and then i will add your suggestion in the official chart.
End of quote
Go figure (LMFAO)
Boris
Edit - Britney big boobed useless Spears has actually managed to sell 25 million copies of her baby one more time album (Wonder if the mental institutions all over the world have that many places for all those people ;-)

- Your stats -
As of Sept. 2002
These are U.S. Album Sales (...trying to get Canadian stats)
What kind of stats are they?? I don't care what the bloody 'yanks' buy, I'm interested in 'overall' stats from reliable sources ...
You have to admit that the latest figures you produced are lacking any founding base for its validity, or ??
Boris
Edit - Just seen that the page has 'overall stats' - however the stats could be pulled from anywhere IMO
