That's probably a fair pick... still, Tool is overrated.

seriously though if you judge today's 00's bands with the ones uzless listed in previous decades you get the arctic monkey's, the white stripes and muse. just like in previous decades when the beatles, elvis, metallica etc were tv and radio popular as are these bands. here anyway... britain and IRELAND.

Would you be happier if we feigned an interest in some crappy little 'underground' bands that play an awful hybrid of country 'n' western and soft rock instead?

I don't think bands influence bands these days. I think general cultural trends, media and music industry control influences bands, not least because, certainly in Britain, the industry writes the menu and the rest of us pretty much like it or lump it. I've given up on British music nowadays. Apart from Radiohead and Muse I really cannot abide anything I've come across which isn't an amateur gigging group. Even those are few and far between, and unlikely to go anywhere.

By the way, Messiahs are typically anointed by God, not record companies.

The Beatles are truly the only Messiahs of music who ever existed.
Bingo...we have a winner, well spoken Darv.
