They removed both paintings from their frames, but one report I've heard suggested that they simply TORE the pictures out. The egotistical buyer would surely be fussy about something like that!

There's been a suggestion that drug barons now use paintings as currency.

All completely mad.

Another sad aspect of this - the painting(s) were not insured for theft.

Not sure how bright that is.

Also, why were these masterpieces not better protected? They were hung on the walls with wires?

That seems to be exactly the case. One eye-witness states that when the robber snatched The Scream from its place, he began banging it against the wall and the floor, and originally the eye-witness assumed he was destroying it but really he was just trying to get the wires attached to it to break off!
