Not Enough Chocolate...

Reading some of the threads in the RHP Forums is like being back in high school all over again... only it's online, with no requirement to interact with others in the real world. What daily drama! What angst! This will probably offend some (not intentionally) but why does anyone get so upset and out of sorts about comments made by random strangers they'll never meet? And some posters can get so catty, nitpicky, so intolerant. Maybe such a person just doesn't have enough family, friends, sex or chocolate in his life.

-just me

.

Family, friends, sex and chocolate are the root of all angst!

You're referring to the rabble, of course.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Online_disinhibition_effect

"With respect to bad behavior, users on the Internet can frequently do or say as they wish without fear of any kind of meaningful reprisal. In most Internet forums, the worst kind of punishment one can receive for bad behavior is usually being banned from a particular site. In practice, however, this serves little use; the person involved can usually circumvent the ban by simply registering another username and continuing the same behavior as before. Suler calls this toxic disinhibition.["

Perhaps we were already upset when we chose to click on the forum icon, and this is therapy for us. Sometimes we like to shake out our emotional wrinkles with humour, sometimes we prefer to press them out vigorously with the heat derived from friction, sort of a digital primal scream.

Maybe we notice this more when everything is fine and we are just here for a chat, but I think the vast majority of us go for all the above options, depending on our mood at any given time.

P.s There is never enough chocolate.

Thanks. I assume "Fill your boots" translates to "Knock yourself out."

"Fill your boots: An invitation to partake with gusto, as in 'be my guest,' or 'help yourself'. 'Here's one for you to chomp on, fill your boots'." (Urban Dictionary)
